Forums - Sony Discussion - sony profits from every psp, ps2 and 160g ps3 alot

Ill make this short and simple,  Ill list how much i believe each sony console is making.

the 10 year old ps2 costs a 100$ and is making sony about 50 to 60 dollars on each console sold why you ask?

its a dvd player with a controller and dont forget im also including the meomory card cost that must be purchased alone.

The 5 year old psp costs 169.99$ and is making sony about 40 to 50 dollars on each psp sold because its cheap parts.

when the psp go comes out it will sell for 249$ and since i believe its cheaper to produce than the other psp models it should

make a hundred dollars or more on each psp go sold.

the 160g ps3 sells for 499$ and it makes sony 100$ on each console sold, the 80g ps3 is 399$ and it breaks even.

My source is my logic,  tell me what you guys think?  (This is a sony discussion only)

Sony themselves said PSP is a high margin product. No idea about 160GB PS3.

That's great news.

Wonderful. Nice source.

Seriously though, Sony already told us they lose $50 for the 80GB console, and you say its even. You also say they make $100 for the 160GB version, but did you even remember they add Uncharted game in there and Pain voucher card?

I think you're forgetting retailers margin, distributers fees, warehouse fees, transport fees etc. etc. etc.

Sony does not get $99 per PS2 sold, and nor does it $169.99 per PSP. But yeah, you make an interesting case nonetheless

HOWEVER, these items are far more expensive in EU than in the US, and thats where I believe the "profit" will come from, if there is any.

You have to realize that the Uncharted discs cost them like 5 cents and Pain costs them nothing since they get revenue from the DLC. Development costs for both games are completely paid off. So really they do make $50 + DLC revenue from Pain off the 160GB model.

Yeah but then manufacturing the box and cover also costs money :P.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 > Modern Warfare 2

They may be just about breaking even on PS3 now, but once they drop price that should end.

I think the 160 GB PS3 costs a little bit more to manufacture, you get Uncharted and a game voucher and 80+ GB of space.

So to add that on to the 80 GB PS3, it costs more to manufacture.

only they cut 100$ and no ps3 slim introduced.

by the time we have 32nm or 45nm cell+rsx they should make a decent profit.
