Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN: Sparking Flame Warz between Wii and iPhone

How powerful is an Iphone?

Or was he exaggerating?

I thought it was a gross exaggeration at first, like many here. But after looking some of the specs up it seems closer than what I would have thought... still exaggerating though (look at those RE4 screens).

Comparison to the two:

Iphone 3GS -

CPU - 833 MHz underclocked to 600 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 and PowerVR SGX Source

RAM - 256 MB of RAM. Source

GPU - Can't find any specifics here. There's probably more out there, I didn't look very hard. Power-VR SGX GPU with Open GL 2.0 ES archetecture Source

Wii -

CPU - IBM Broadway processor, reportedly clocked at 729 MHz.

GPU: ATI Holywood, reportedly clocked at 243 MHz

RAM: 24MBs of "main" 1T-SRAM. It additionally boasts 64MBs of "external" 1T-SRAM. That brings the total number of system RAM up to 88MBs, not including the 3MB texture buffer on the GPU.  Same, outdated source for all three.

Now, I'm certainly not the right person to ask, but I would wager that the main difference between the two is the GPU - in the Wii's favour.

I do realize that what I have listed is not the only information needed for comparisons sake, but it's the best I could find in just a few short minutes. Also, I realize those Wii specs are outdated. Please correct me if the info is off.

Edit: Nevermind. Mr Khan had already beaten me too it. Sorry, I didn't see your post.

We didn't start the Flame War
Peeps were hating on it
'fore I left comment
We didn't start the Flame War
Let the whole widde world know
that I'm a big'o ***hole
We didn't start the Flame War...

Seriously though, even if they MIGHT be true, it only concreted Nintendo's philosophy: Make awesome games with cheap techs.
So I could care less...

I heard a pretty valid comparison that it was like the Dreamcast in power.

I think the original Edge/3G iPhone is the one that was compared to the DC. The 3GS is significantly more powerfull. However the Wii is certainly faster in every way.

Matt Casamassina must be very bored to post this silly article, what a shame of "journalist".

The OP left off this damning addition:

This is not going to go over well for Wii owners who still don't believe the GameCube 1.5 specs IGN posted about Nintendo's console prior to its release. If you fall into that group, fret not -- we're sure the hidden potential just hasn't been unlocked yet. Someone flip the HD switch, please.

Casarassafrassa is such a troll.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

Wow, that is a troll.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

::chuckle:: Some Wii fans may get sensitive over underpowered comments, but personally, I just don't care. Whatever the numbers say or how graphics compare, I highly enjoy many Wii games.

Most of that power will be used on having to support an operating system.

On another note, has anyone played doom on the iphone? huhhhhuhhhuhuhuhu, playing that game with those controls made me shudder.
