Forums - Sony Discussion - No Mandatory Install For Uncharted 2

I don't understand why people dislike the installs so much. It only takes 1-2 minutes for me.

i have 5GB left. I had 37GB.

It kinda takes the piss.

Upgrade or delete data^

this makes me happy, my 40GB is running out fast, and other devs have no excuses anymore if a game like uncharted 2 doesn't have mandatory install.

Wii/Mario Kart Wii Code:2793-0686-5434

Yay, although I'll still install it to improve performance.

They have a PS3 tech team working in their studio.

My hat's off to them, though this isn't really THAT impressive. Other developers should be ditching the installs and improving performance without them, anyway.

And if it's like the first game with minimal, if any, load times while in-game... I'd say that's impressive for how nice the game looks.

One word for 40GB SKU owners: Supersize.

After upgrading a 60GB drive to 320GB and then returning to a 60GB refurb, I can't keep anything on that system but game installs and PSN titles.

The 320GB drive I immediately swapped out in a 40GB SKU actually started getting cramped after using it to store a fair amount of video, plus a library of demos, PSN titles, game installs, music, etc. before swapping it out for a 500GB drive.

500GB drives run about $85 currently. 320GB drives can be bought for about the price of a $60 BD game if you shop.

It's largely due to the effective use of texture streaming. It's also why some of the cut scenes had some texture pop in while they were buffering. Gears of War does the same thing due to texture streaming as well.

KZ2 had no install either, no texture pop in, but noticable lag in between in game load sequences (strategically placed during lulls in the aciton).

Anyway, it's a bit more typical to see no installs for SCE exclusives, the one blaring exception being MGS4 of course.

Personally, I wish there was a 10GB install option for that game to install all levels at once so you can jump around from chapter to chapter without waiting for a "mini install."
