While I don't think that Nintendo has fully fleshed out the ideas presented in either game, I don't think it is particularly fair to call either game a thrown together tech demo ...
Many of the Wii games are designed to around a different set of principles than most other games, and as a result the "depth" of these games may not be obvious to someone who plays them like other genres. Many of the Wii games are designed to be experienced in short playsessions over a long period of time from people who are looking to master the gameplay mechanics. While it (may) be difficult for some people to apprieciate, some people will spend hundreds of hours trying to get perfect scores on all of the mini-games in all game modes; and may even play hundreds of more hours in local multiplayer.
A tech demo is a game that has very little value beyond showing off the technology, and I hardly think a game where people will put in 20 to 200 hours in can be said to have little value.
