Just when you think you had about it... another rumor slash confirmation pops up. What's the news? Sony Playstation "Japan", is planning to release a 160GB PS3 after November in Japan??!! So, while the size of the PS3 in Europe is getting reduced, Japan is getting a bigger one!! And of course.. it will be a more expensive one than the recent PS3... as you can see it contains more! Memory-Card Reader??? I've already heard from a seller in Japan, Japan will get a Silver and White PS3 model by the end of the year, is this the version then?

Thanks to one of our reliable insiders, [-JuNka-], we have news that Sony is planning to introduce a beefed up 160GB Playstation 3 console. The following post was left by a member on the Pro Evolution Soccer forums:

Edit: and look at that... the 65nm Cell I was whining about... :=/.

Its juts a bigger harddrive, other things are just for the technophile nut.

People need to stop overreacting over it.

Don't forget, there have also been rumours about larger PS3s hitting Europe

RSX is not 550 mhz it's 500 so..if that spec is wrong the whole thing is probably wrong..

Also there is not 8 spe's in PS3 Cell..there is 7, one is disabled for yield.

It wouldn't do any good to have 8 in a certain model PS3, as games couldn't use it, since they must work in all PS3's, and all the PS3's already sold only have 7.

Those two specs being wrong dont automatically mean a 160GB PS3 couldn't happen, but they do lessen the credibility of the informant, as internal Sony documents as he claims they are, would not have those kind of spec errors.

And BTW, a current theory is that the 40GB PS3 will have 65nm chips. It would make sense as it would reduce costs a lot, thereby helping allow the low price. It's not confirmed though.

I dunno, but this is really getting weird. Why bringing in Europe a cheaper version, and in Japan a more expensive version where the PS3 has the lowest sales of all... I don't get it. Remind you that the 40GB speculations without BC became reality as well. Other then the Cell I have no idea about specs., so I´m sorry I couldn´t see the mistake about this all.

And the seller in Japan assured me they´ll get the 2 color models by the end of the year.

Onna76, any word on the 20 GB model? Will it be dropped, thus generating another "hardware upgrade" instead of a price cut? 

I honestly don't know. I've just contacted the seller in Japan per E-mail, from who I bought my slim PSP and JP WII, the one who said Japan will get the Silver / White color PS3 consoles. Although I'm not sure if this rumor has reached to his door yet.

This is all going to get rather confusing for most buyers, it's pretty hard to keep track of what's going out and coming in and where and for how much.

People won't know whether to wait for something better or cheaper to be released or buy up old stock with bc.
