Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How much longer Do You Think DS had ft before Nintendo's next Handheld?

Definitely not before 2011-2012, DS is the most popular platform ever, plus competition is not rushing with a new system (with PSP Go being similar update to DSi)

2012, maybe 2013.

2011, same year as the Wii's successor.

2011 is going to be a repeat of 2001 for Nintendo, seeing two new platforms launch simultaneously.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Why on Earth would Nintendo release their next system in 2011? I just can't see it. I think this generation is going to last (on average) at least 2 more years than last gen.

2015 maybe. When the technology allows them to have a more powerful, but still low priced handheld to sell for a profit.

After Mario Tennis DS and Mario Golf DS (PLEASE!). The DS is selling pretty damn well, maybe we will see a successor in 2012.

More interesting question; will Nintendo bring back the Gameboy trademark again?

Well, the 5th generation of Pokemon is coming up, and each generation of Pokemon came out on one of the new Nintendo handhelds. My guess is that the new itteration of the DS may come out in 2011-2012.

What reason does Nintendo have to release a new handheld? Currently the DS is (amazingly) dominating weekly/monthly/annual sales charts in HW and SW. The DS is just as strong now as it was when it launched. With the success that the DS currently has, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo pushed the lifespan of the DS out past 2012.

I would actually be willing to bet that the 360/PS3/Wii will see a successor before the DS.

Very much this.

They already said they officially retired the name a few years ago. I wish they would bring it back though. The DS should've been the Gameboy DS.
