Forums - Sales Discussion - The Real War is between Wii and X360

One of the first rules of statistics is Correlation does not equate causation. If something is corellated it doesn't mean that they affect each other, it just means that they occationally moved in the same direction over a period of time...

\so corellation of the sales of each console dies not mean that they affect each other in any meaningful way.

PSN ID: T_Gears

End of 2009 ltd sales:

Wii = 67-68m

X360 = 38-39m

PS3 = 34-35m

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).

The Wii doesn't count. The 360 and the PS3 focuses on the same gaming userbase, while the Wii focuses on a new generation of non-gamers. The Wii doesn't count and besides it's not even HD.

This is sarcasm if he get ban for this I will protest vigorously

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Pretty good. I had to reread it a few times, but I understood what you were saying.

Well, I've used the last 10 weeks data on that link
http://www.vgchartz.com/chartsindex.php

I'd to evaluate for 12 months as well, but any idea how to get weekly sales like that one. I am a little confused with the new design, so I'd appreciate if you guys could help me with the relevant page.

I saw that a few days ago, its really interesting. I absolutely failed statistics, last semester I did two papers and I got an A for Economics and I failed my statistics, thats how bad it is for me.

I think you'd need to prove correlation over a longer period of time to imply causation. It may very easily be a coincidence that the Wii numbers dropped as the Xbox 360 numbers increased. The data for the last 10 weeks of of the year is most widely available so you may want to have a look at that. I think the search term is H.Y.P.E. and the poster is SQRL so you could PM him directly as well.

Tease.

In money? its a damned slaughter.(Wii) it games? 360 wins.

In my most humble of opinions of course...

if there was a war it happened so quickly i think we all missed it.

Which is why he probably needs to conduct a multiple regression analysis of said coefficents, and determine if the variables he was working with are a good fit. But that in its self is a very large can of worms i couldn't be arsed to open right now

@Squill seems like we're both in the same boat i aced Economics as well stats sunk like a rock..LOL
