That sounded really ridiculous until I actually watched the ad, and then it made sense. This looks like a cool ad campaign.

It did sound weird, but the result was pretty spectacular. I like it.

 In before you get banned for the third time today.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

@NJ5

well its not like saying that at all is it.

its like saying "not just a tasty banana, a tastier banana".

what would you go for, the tasty banana or the tastier banana?

oh yeah, it looks super cool, especially the uncharted one, that looks like an awsome game. although not many people will see these adds will they? They should do something similar for a TV ad.

"A tasty banana" implies being "Tastier than some bananas" therefore it implies "Tastier banana" ;) So "High definition" also implies "Higher definition", hence the redundancy.

Or are they claiming that it's Higher Definition than their competitors' High Definition? I don't think they can ;)

We live in a world where redundancy is commonplace. ATM Machine, NIC Card, PIN Number, RAID Array, 12 Noon, bald-headed, close proximity, "every now and then", free gift, main focus... the list goes on. Marketing is not above this. In this case, it may be used to draw special attention to this type of high definition as being somewhat superior. That is, if it was done intentionally.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

highest>higher>high

biggest>bigger>big

low>lower>lowest

imagine a tree, 2 people A and B, have climbed x distance and y distance up the tree, person A is high up the tree, person B is higher up the tree, which person, A or B is furthest from the ground?

For fucks sake. Sonys new brilliant add is a lie. "Higher Definition" Thats a joke. You know, I know it, Sony knows it. 1080p is 1080p and all the comparative studies rate hddvd vs blueray the same quality to any reasonable person.

*edit* If they are talking about games and not movies being higher def that is also a laughable and we all know it. Games look just as good on 360.

@elendar

yeah, your really clutching at straws this time to make sony look bad.
