The Dreamcast is the Heath Ledger of consoles.

The Dreamcast was really was quite an amazing system if you were a hardcore gamer, fighting game fan, or scrolling shooter fan. The former two because the most popular of those two genres ran on Sega Naomi hardware, hence giving the Dreamcast perfect arcade ports.
As a hardcore fan of scrolling shooters and Street Fighter Alpha 3, the Dreamcast was and still is an excellent system as far as I'm concerned, but even I have to admit that it really had a lack of mainstream appeal. The only third party to give it any kind of half-decent support was Capcom. The lack of support from EA, Square, and Konami alone was enough to make sure it would have a hard time in the US and Japan, and lack of support from every other third-party as time went on pretty much spelled its doom. It did have Soul Calibur, NFL2K, NBA2K, Sega Rally, Skies Of Arcadia, but most gamers cared more about Tekken, Madden, NBA Live, Gran Turismo, and Final Fantasy.
