With all the delays that have been announced in the last few weeks, the fall PS3 lineup is really starting to thin out. Bioshock 2, MAG, Heavy Rain, Max Payne 3, Dead to Rights, Bayonetta, Singularity, and Mafia II are just some of the titles that have been pushed back from Holiday 09 to "early 2010". I think this is a great opportunity for Sony and GG to put out a Game of the Year Edition of Killzone 2 to take advantage of the unusually sparse lineup this year. Here are a few reasons why:
1. Since KZ2 was released in February, it hasn't had the benefit of capitalizing on the huge holiday sales season. Repackaging it as a new product will help bolster sales even more.
2. The third map pack is coming out on 7/23, it's possible that there'll be a fourth map pack out by October if not sooner. Assuming Sony would bundle all the DLC into a GOTY edition, it will add a great value proposition. That's 16 total multiplayer maps! It'll also help increase the amount of users who play on the new maps which seems to be an issue right now.
3. Other than MW2, there's no other FPS games coming out this fall for PS3. Last year there was Resistance 2, Far Cry 2, Bioshock, and CoD: World at War. Of course MW2 is going to destroy the competition and is part of the reason why other publishers are delaying their titles but there is still room for an alternative.
4. Less than 10% of all PS3 owners have bought this game. Considering that this was supposed to be Sony's flagship shooter, there is a huge untapped audience out there. Despite all the hype on the internet, there was very little real life hype or promotion. A GOTY re-release along with a new ad campaign will give this game much more exposure.
What do you guys think? Should Sony re-release KZ2 this Fall or should they dedicate all their resources to promoting Uncharted 2 and R&C?
