on gamerankings.com super mario galaxy is the 2nd / 3rd highest rated game of all time. this confuses me. 

like i LOVE the game, just like every1 else but how can a game with not so good looking graphics and a generic story get that high? like i could c it being an 85 maybe 88 but 97??? these no way crappy stories and bad graphics only count for 3 % of the overall.

im suspecting some bias towards this. 

was it rated so high just because it was a mario game? like did reviwers decide to veto the story part because its a mario game? did they ignor graphics because its on the wii?

thoughts?

Because maybe it deserves to be rated well haha.

Remember... Just because YOU don't think it should be rated that high, doesn't mean all the reviewers are going to agree with just YOU. Point being, you don't matter to the reviewers. Don't take it so harshly... I don't matter either. If I did, Gears of War 1 would have an 80-85 percentile average review.

I don't think that a story is necessarily that important for a game like mario as long as the gameplay is good and fun. I havn't played this game though so i don't really know if the gameplay is good enough for this score.

Ive not played it but i hear nothing but good news about it.

And not to forget all the hype it had.

Super Mario Galaxy had bad graphics? Wow, what Wii games are you comparing to? And bad story, it's a generic story, yes, it's basically about saving Peach from Bowser but who cares about story when playing Mario? It's platforming and level design that I care about when playing Mario and those were top notch in Galaxy.

Because great game design and innovation matter most.

Story and Graphics don't = game

They can enhance games IF needed.... and to be honest, Mario Galaxy is not exactly bad in the graphics department.

You can't expect a game to exceed the hardware it runs on, so the graphics are fine. As for the story, I guess people were having too much fun to care?
