Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Virtua Fighter 5 to debut the same day in Japan as Lost Odyssey - Opinions?

yea 360's problem is .. the PS3 versions and 360 versions of PES and DW release the same day .. which console will get more of a boost from that huh?

I think GT can very well boost the sales a bit before launch (and "a bit" might be enough in this case) and ofcourse after launch there will be no chances for the 360 to top PS3's sales.

The people in japan ,who are hardcore enough to get VF5 for consoles already have it for the (dirt cheap) PS3 ,while all others play it in arcades ,so I expect pretty low numbers from VF5 .. about 10k first week , 15-20k lifetime.. and ofcourse no significant boost from that game.

As for LO , while it certainly will be a good boost for the 360 I don't expect it to do much better than Blue Dragon , because BD had the Toriyama art style , which still is tremendously popular in Japan , while LO doesn't have that advantage.
In my crystal ball I see a good ,slightly below 100k first week (92-98k) and about 30k boxes sold that week.

 Do you own a 360?

Laf - I didn't say that PS3 wouldn't sell more units that week when DW6 and PES launch - Obviously it's going to increase ALOT.

But, the fact is, percentage wise, they will most likely increase the same. Thats my argument: If PS3 and X360 are locked at a 2:1 ratio, or so, the week of LO + VF5, the fact is, that LO and VF5 will increase ALOT more than the pre-GT5 Prologue week.

Remember, Blue Dragon increased X360 sales from 4,500 to 37,000. Xbox 2007 sales have beaten 2006 sales for every week but ONE. Not only this, but Xbox 360 sales this year have beaten last year's by 99%. Therefore, if Lost Odyssey and Virtua Fighter 5 increased sales by the SAME as Blue Dragon did, we'd be looking at 72,000 units.

So if the X360 stayed in line as last year when Blue Dragon launched, and sold 72,000 (which is vastly higher than my prediction), what do you think then?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

50k? This would
VF5 sold in its first week only 50k on PS3 with the userbase of 660k. So i dont think it can 75k on smaller userbase. Especially thah if someone wanted VF5 he had his a half year to buy it and probably has it. Of course the online addition will help but not that much. Xbox 360 broke 50k only once when was released and I don't think it will happen again.
Also when you look how other consoles are doing 50k would be a good result not only for PS3 but even for Wii. For a console which sells 1.5k per week it seems much to high.

Im a bit more pessimistic. For first week Id guess

Lost Odyssey: 100,000 Units
Virtua Fighter 5: 40,000 Units
X360 Hardware: 45,000 Units

It will be nice when the 360 finally reaches that half million mark :)

I think BD will get a nice spike for all those hesitant Japanese rpg'ers who didnt want to get a 360 "just for Blue Dragon".

PS360 ftw!

Currently playing..........

Gears of War 2, GTA IV Lost and Damned, Little Big Planet (Yes I said I had no interest but my girl wanted to try it and we did and now Im hooked )

I can't wait either. We will hit that half million and 1 million mark before this console war ends. I also believe your predictions too. I think Blue Dragon will get a increase this Christmas anyway do to what you said about those hesitanted Japanese RPG'ers.

Some low expectations don't we....its predictable from kber81

I see it like this:

Lost Odyssey: 100,000 copiesVirtua Fighter 5: 60,000 copiesX360 Hardware: 40,000 units sold to consumers

@ W29 )

Does that have anything to do with my prediction? No , I don't have a 360 and in fact I only have a PS3 , so I guess all my opinions are void.

@ mrstickball )

Well, in that case Microsoft has something to celebrate and finally taken a real step into the japanese market , but in my humble opinion the probability of this happening is pretty small.
The question here is ,if LO can broaden the userbase , or if it only sells big in the already captured userbase and tbh I think it's mostly the later one (although obviously it does much more to broaden it in japan than Halo 3 for instance) .. looking at BDs first week 30k may have been a bit low , for the boost certainly won't be much less than the 37k BD achieved , so 35-40k seem to be possible (together with christmas sales) and anything above that a real success.

@Lafiel

Now since you applied your opinion, I think the PS3 won't do absolutely anything when they have a price cut. That goes to show you that Sony is really in deep sh*t and worried to lose the market when they release this $400 SKU. I say its a totally rip off of the 20GB one. Why would you price a 20GB for $500 and then price a 40GB SKU for $400. So that means those $500 20GB owners are pissed off.

@ W29 )

quite off-topic

we will see if it does anything or not ,because the price cut/release should be really near , if the rumors are true
