Sony's Head of Market Research for North America, Robert Brickstone, has issued a statement regarding the PS3's sales, said by many to be lackluster, with Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision, going as far as to say that Activision may cut PS3 support completely if Sony refuses to cut the price and thus increase PS3 sales. It is generally accepted that the PS3 is in third place, with 22.45 million sales, to the Xbox 360's 31.24 million and the Wii's 51.01 million (numbers from VGChartz, an independent video game sales tracking website). However, Brickstone claims that the PS3 is actually the best selling current generation console.
"The PS3 is not selling badly, it is in first place. The Wii doesn't really count, it's not really a professional console, more of an attempt at one. As for the Xbox 360, the Red Ring of Death caused a 33% failure rate, and if you take away 1/3 of Xbox 360 sales (which are, of course, replacement models), you will find that the PS3 has actually outsold it, and continues to do so, week after week. We are not considering a price cut at this time"

EDIT: Damn, I forgot to post the link. Now I can't find the article. It was on Destructoid, maybe they took it down or something.
