Haven't watched enough anime to be considered hardcore, but I want more anime like Welcome to the NHK and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (it's weird, they're different studios but they have a sorta superflatish feel to them, and the theme/ending songs are made by the same guy. I like the dark twisted look at Japanese society, and the jabs an anime show takes against their very owns fans and medium.

Watched GitS when I was younger. I couldn't really understand the RAW version of the original GitS movie (BTW, I fucking hate GitS 2.0), and now that I have a dub I might watch it again. The anime series was awesome, and I was more fascinated by the universe and the sci fi, than the social science (mainly because I couldn't really understand what a Stand Alone Complex was XD. This was my best guess on what it was: The Laughing Man never originally existed. The boy, Aoi, never called himself the Laughing Man, and the character that was known as the Laughing Man, blackmailing medical companies and causing chaos was only created by a conspiracy between the companies, government, media, and as well as the assumptions and imaginations of the people. It's the society itself that creates a non-existent hero to lead them and follow (like in the Second Gig... fuck I REALLY didn't get that, especially when Gouda started speaking. Even my mom said that the dialogue was a pain in the ass.)

I got introduced to the Light Novels of Melancholy via the anime (I always get introduced to something via a spinoff/adapation. Which Zetsubou made fun of XD) and my favorite character is definetly Yuki. I love how since she doesn't do anything, the very slightest of things are so much more meaningful (although it's the anime, the cardiagn(sp?) scene was awesome. What makes it even more awesome is that chronilogically it's RIGHT before the Dissaperance, and as soon as those episodes unfold, that episode will become 100X more meaningful than it originally was. Gonna keep myself from spoiling). Haruhi's funny, but she just seems 2D for the most part. I haven't studied philosophy, but she generally says the common argument that our lives are insignificant and not unique. I'm a follower of the theory that Kyon is the actual god.

(what a fucking mess of a paragraph [above])

I watched Evangelion, loved some tracks of the ost, but for the most part, I don't like post modern shit. I don't want to read a fucking psychology book to understand the references and plot. It's a cliche in anime for a character to suddenly powerup, even when he had nothing left, with a huge burst of anger. And don't get me wrong, the first few times that happened I thought it was really bad ass. But then it just became so fucking predictable. Oh no, Shinji's in a pinch. How will he get out of this situation? RAWRRRR, he does the impossible because he's pissed/freaked out.

End of Evangelion, the second half was pretty awesome though (AT Field, isolation/seperation, individuality).

I watched Wolf's Rain. HATED the metro design of the characters. Loved the music by Yoko Kanno (thought it got a bit repetitive though. They used the Shiro track too many times. There really wasn't a feeling of a big continuous story. Or rather it just felt like stuff just happened and they kept saying "Paradise, paradise, paradise". Only until the last few episodes did everything become meaningful (Middle Eastern religions with Salvation vs. Indian religions with reincarnation), especially the 4 OVAs (they were obligated after those 4 fucking filler episodes).

Watched Lucky Star, didn't really get the references since I'm not a hardcore anime watcher. Thought it was pretty fucking funny though.

Watched Cowboy Bebop. Thought that Jet and Faye was so much more interesting than Spike (not saying that he wasn't awesome). It's just that Faye's slow character development and revealing of the past is awesome. Jet just had specific stand alone episodes, but those episodes were fleshed out and awesome. My problem with Spike is that I didn't get Julia. I didn't get the ammount of conflict between him and... fucking forgot his name. They do those grey/brown flashback scenes, but that's not enough. You can't just make me feel a lot of attachment to a character such as Julia just by showing me a few fleeting clips of Spike and her kissing and fucking. I don't feel anything when Julia dies, because I've only seen her for a total of a few minutes. I can't feel the significance of Spike's past, because they  were fleshed out. You need TIME for some things.

My parents showed me a few Miyazaki films when I was little (Totoro, the one with the witch, the one with the castle in the sky, etc), but I forgot them all now.

I saw the Girl Who Leapt Time, and thought it was really really nice. (I want to see Summer Wars).

Saw Blood+, fucking horrible. Saw Blood, fucking horrible Engrish.

Was watching Monster, had so much momentum and then around episode 20ish (Holy shit, it has like 70+ episodes?) I just stopped. I just have't got back to it.

Watched Fate/Stay Night, I'm so glad I played the game first. It wasn't horrible, just mediocre-average. I really wish they'll make a UBW and HF season/movie.

please don't comment on evangelion if you don't understand it. you are trying to say its some sort of shonen crap like bleach or DBZ. shinji doens't go all "RAWRRR im angry" he is conected to the eva, the eva has his mother soul inside, his mother soul is the one reacting. the plt of evangelion requires you to see the anime, if you don't understand its plot only by seing it, you suck and should stay away light years away from serial experiments lain unless you want your head to burst out.

Might wanna watch spoilers. Yeah, I watched End of Evangelion and got that, but they used it so many fucking times (thought it was really depressing how, well fuck, there's enough spoilers, how she was sent with Eva into space as evidence and symbol that humanity existed).

I got the basic plot (Angels are other forms of humans that God wanted to create, ATFields allow our souls to be seperate and whatever the liquid was called to hold form, isolationism and some degree of being "alone" is necessary to be an individual. But I just think that obscure references to religious text, psychology (and I really feel that a lot of post modern people don't understand it to the degree a teacher or expert understands) doesn't allow me to get the story more, but only confuses me (and that confusion appeals to a lot of post modern fans).

I fucking hated how all the characters become terminally depressed in the end. I fucking hated that the director used End of Evangelion to put in unncessary fuck yous to the fanboys of the series (the hate mail part).

It's not that I hate Evangelion specificly, but I just fucking hate Post modern in general.
