Yeah I agree. Who cares if the game is good or not?  it is DQ it always suck!  Sales are much more important!

Ah so when critic's reviews are bad we turn to the gamers for their insight. When the gamers' reviews are bad we turn to the... critics. How about when reviews are bad we look for something to agree with us... or in this case we just look for something to make the game seem better. Come on guys... your digging. None of us... aside our few Japanese members will actually know whether this game is good. Leave it at that.

its a dragon quest game, you know what you're getting into.

Reading the reviews, there were seven or eight pages posted before the game was released.

Also, many of the complaints that I saw were about the game not being on a console.

In other words, people in many cases are not commenting on what it is but what it is not.

yes it does matter to ACTUAL FANS of the series.

if your really a gamer you would buy a game you like not a game that sold alot.

@Maynard:

Negative reviews of DQ IX will adversely affect DQ X's sales, no matter what the preorder awesomeness of DQ IX was.  Running a hot franchise into the ground is foolish, no matter how you look at it.  DQ IX's continued sales would likely be even higher, if it was well received, don't you agree?

As an example, an American company named Trilobyte made one of the first successful CD-ROM titles, called "The 7th Guest".  They made a sequel called "The 11th Hour" which had a colossal number of pre-orders (over a half million, which was titanic at the time -- I believe it was actually a pre-order record breaker in the mid 90s).  The game had horrid reviews.  They never got any more orders for the title, and the company went out of business a couple years later.

So yes, it matters, unless you're an investor in S-E and are planning on selling your shares ASAP.

I wonder how many of those poor reviews are honest reviews, and how many are just expressions of fanboy rage? It does strike me as odd that a game (even Dragon Quest) can truly be an overwhelmingly 1-star product...and that we can decide this less than a day after release.

I can second this. Has there ever been a good Dragon Quest?

Damn. These are some harsh and telling reviews

DORAKUE, monsters and brave織RI成SU "fantasy" should.
"World of Adventures", the player has a hero and journey together.
Beyond the mountains, across the sea, meeting with colleagues, farewell, kill monsters, I wanted to pick up the weapon.
And that theme song, remember the excitement of the past, but高鳴RIMASU chest.

But this time, the fairies appear in black face, and vulgar language.
The supporting cast is good if this bawdy fairy been DESHABAっfine,
Time, "adventure world", cheesy "real world" will snap oneself back.
Character set to ruin the view of the world DORAKUE, "Ultra to feel ill at ease."
DORAKUE in the past, "body conscious fairy" or the character of what was fashionable appearance?

The comment was also someone,
I have and I'm not even considering that the producers,
I was sorry.

The game system is also predictable feel. The sense of unity with zero friends.
All the same old thing and do not say that,
In half-all the more sense if the deterioration was a little disappointed.

Or how about this one:

Because of the president of WADA is not in my nature? Also in my DS and focused at the time of sale, and I do not love the game SANRASHII president. In FF-2 in 10 of 10 Wada also reused in the production order. Bummer ridiculous results. FF12 does not know the meaning of the hero's willingness to ignore the scenario Matsuno, horse ○ scenarios now in the hands of those who bare thin. For sales, for the target age. FF7 Crisis Core is one of the scenarios in the order of the President was quite original in the two groups are likely to be cut scenario tears. Also see her leave her Matsuno and Mr. Sakaguchi and Uematsu. I, thank you, Mr. President. Please read the air. FF DORAKUE and more, please nonpolluting. From頼MIMASU, FF13 and 14 are not to interfere. SUKUENI employees and handcuffs, FF Fan, DORAKUEFAN for the future of the Japanese game industry, please resign.

And we can't forget this telling piece

Fun:
No matter how hard I'm selling it because DS will not work with latest DORAKUE.
And Kak Kak, I do overfishing.
It's half-built in general.

The same portable machine, PSP yet if
DS than it is to make the most作RETA
Well I think it was fit for the better.
Now that I would not have written an adventure www

Personally PS3 still wanted out.
Square and I was his long-awaited
FF beautiful graphics technology and DQ I wanted to exercise restraint.
Oh well, wii.

I want to do good in the studio DORAKUE-deferred.

And last but not least

0 or no stars on That?, 2009/7/14
By Shibu °ャヒ - See all my reviews
Began selling a few hours to play straight away.
The amount of purchases or sales -500 HYAHHA I did!!

The amount of pre-owned DQ7 I came back and all I bought super fun

9 DQNine only?
This is rubbish. Thank you very much

So what can we make of this? Simple, google translate is funny.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

have you ever played dragon quest??? you havent right.

sales mean nothing. If i see a game that i like i will buy it regardless of how much it sold. As for graphics, if anyone thinks this is actually a really important factor in playing a game, is clearly NOT a real gamer. Graphics dont make the game and is the last thing on my mind when i go to buy a game i like.
