Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii Fit will trump Halo 3's opening week sales

It's me again.

And one of these naggling visions is bothering the hell out of me to the point where I have to post it on e-paper.

Halo 3 did TREMENDOUS sales on its opening days. ABSOLUTELY TREMENDOUS. RECORD-BREAKING and awe-inspiring. Totally impressed by Microsoft's ability to pull it off and standing in opera house applaud at their achievement. MS might as well be Celes from Final Fantasy VI after performing her part in that crazy play.

BUT

Here I go again.

I see something. I see something big.

Wii Fit is due in Japan before the end of this year. More than any other market Nintendo has a great command of what the Japanese people want. They've studied the changing demographics as a great portion of the population is aging and have included that in their corporate direction. Hence games like Wii Fit.

While it indeed will be popular worldwide and have legs that will last throughout the entire duration of the system's life much like other games in the Wii series, in Japan in particular Wii Fit will shock the world.

I'm gonna say it.

Wii Fit in Japan *alone* will TRUMP the godsmacking sales of Halo 3 on its opening week.

And the only reason I said simply Japan is because the game will not be simultaneously released in all markets.

If you include all markets together when the game initially releases this prediction stands even stronger and will trump Halo 3 sales further.

Halo 3 even sold in Japan pretty considerable despite that system being basically DOA over there. Wii Fit will do what Halo 3 has done throughout the world and beyond ESPECIALLY in Japan.

When Wii Fit hits this board will be in a tailspin of disbelief and I fear the moderators will have their hands full with people in disgust at these turns of events agitating themselves up to banhood as what often happens when folks take this stuff too personally.

People can never say I'm a boring guy. Who else has the balls to make these insane in the membrane predictions and stand by them closer than Tammy Wynette stands by her man?

Take your shots now and have fun discussing what I presented here. I enjoy the abuse.

Well this is simple. Not a chance.

I am just gonna call bullshit right now. Assuming they could even STOCK enough Wii Fits to satisfy what you are proposing (and they won't if only due to the fact that the package is too large to have that many of on the shelf), it still wouldn't outsell Halo. I think people are overestimating Wii Fit to some degree. I think this game will cost at least $70 too (that Balance Board technology didn't look cheap). It might be $60. I will be impressed if Nintendo somehow manages to charge only $50 for it, but I could be wrong.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

not gonna happen, absolutely no way. Wii fit might be huge, but it's not gonna happen with opening week sales, it's gonna happen by moderate but consistant sales throughout the year.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

It's the simple fact that it is impossible. 3.66 million Wii's in Japan. 3.83 Million copies of Halo 3 sold and counting.

you've finally done it. You've gone nuts.

Wii fit will outsell Halo 3. Not in opening week sales though. Not gonna happen.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

okay... well, john lucas is back all right! too bad he won't come close on this one.

i'll put wii fit opening week sales at 250k. i don't think retailers will even ORDER 1 mln copies, let alone sell over 1 mln copies.

wii fit is the kind of game meant to keep selling about 30k-40k week in week out. nintendo might end up spending more on advertising AFTER the game is released than BEFORE it.

the Wii is an epidemic.

Even if there were 5+million Wiis in Japan, games like Wii Fit tend not to have explosive launches rather than enormous legs. Most likely Wii Fit will surpass total sales of Halo 3 but in the (very) long run.

Sorry for double post, we need a Microsoft and Sony John Lucas to entertain us. God's unfair gift to Nintendo fans

Life time sales easily,

Wii Fit will dominate.
