What is the biggest MMO in China?

Mao's red star, 1.1 billion users.

That's insane.

Oh shit, Free Realms is at over 3 million and growing fast.

Free Realms better than WoW CONFIRMED!

I would be SO happy if this were all true...

In addition, many of the players in China actually use European/Taiwan servers to play. The world's first kill of a very difficult boss in the game was done by a Chinese guild a few nights ago. It seems like the article is making wild assumptions with little to no evidence.

What boss was that, and for how long has he been in the game??

There's a reaon Mao's Red Star has so many users - the graphics are incredible

This in in game, not a cutscene

In other news! Free realms has now surpassed 4 million users!

6 cents an hour to play a PC game seems a lil rip off to me :) In a year you'd end up spending a $100+ the cost of the game...

well i'm assuming they are talking about playing at an internet cafe for 6 cents an hour you are playing not 6 cents per hour just to have an account.  I didn't know it was possible to play WoW without paying the monthly fee though.

Home computer ownership is still pretty low throughout much of China with many parents deeming computers too much of a distraction to have in the home.   Computers are seen as only for games and as you can imagine promoting the internet as a learning tool or a great source of information is not in vogue in China. Therefore most young kids go to internet bars to get their fix.  Knowing this i guess Blizzard set up different system of payment that is more suitable for the Chinese market.

Whats free realms? I bet it's a Sony game.

EDIT: i think i rembmr it being published  by Sony, but it has not that many paying subscribers. They spin data by announcing 'users'.

As for Free Realms, I don't see the point in bringing it up. There's a difference between paying subscribers and "users" (potentially not even active). I can only wonder how many WoW accounts have been opened, and are now inactive (maybe over 20mil?). Wish we had those numbers.

Thanks.
MMOs are so cool. So tempting to play one again.

EDIT:
but how can there be this video of the same boss kill if the Chinese 'STar' team was first?  -posted in April:
