2009 Is The Year of The PS3
Posted on July 7, 2009 by Shak

http://www.ps3center.net/article/266/2009-is-the-year-of-the-ps3/

Remember this statement? PS3Center looks at all the exclusive PS3 games that have been released this year and are due to release for the rest of 2009.

With E3 over and nearly the entire line-up of all console games having been announced, it's now safe to say that 2009 is probably the year of the PS3 in terms of games. Unlike its competitors, Sony always strives to provide gamers with AAA blockbuster titles all year round rather than concentrating everything during the holiday season. Due to this attitude, PS3 owners have been playing fantastic games, exclusively on the PlayStation 3, throughout the year. The following are all games that have been released/will release in 2009.

Demon's Souls

Demon's Souls is an Action RPG from From Software exclusively for the PlayStation 3. With a dark fantasy theme, the player will set off into the heart of Boletaria—a kingdom of warriors that was destroyed after the appearance of beasts and demons. The game is described to be a spiritual successor to the King's Field series for past PlayStation consoles. It released on February 5 in Japan, and is making its way to North America. You can look forward to this sadistically hard game this fall, or you can even import it now as it already has English voice acting.

Yakuza 3

Yakuza 3 is the fourth installment in the Yakuza video game series, developed and published by Sega exclusively for the PlayStation 3. The Japanese version was released in Japan and South East Asia on February 26, and a subtitled version was released in Korea a day later. The title is apparently unlikely to make it to western shores, so if you really want this game, you'll have to import it!

Killzone 2

Killzone 2 is a first-person shooter (FPS) for the PlayStation 3, developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is the third installment in the franchise that began on the PlayStation 2 with Killzone, and continued on the PlayStation Portable with Killzone: Liberation. The game released on February 27 to rave reviews, and is still possibly the best looking console game available to date.

MLB 09 The Show

MLB 09: The Show is a baseball simulation produced by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable systems. In fact, the series is the longest running officially licensed Major League Baseball series on the PlayStation systems. MLB 09: The Show is the fourth edition in the franchise. This game was released on March 3, exclusively on the PlayStation 3, and has been described as the best baseball game available by many reviewers.

Cross Edge

Cross Edge (abbreviated as XEdge or X-Edge), is an RPG developed by Capcom, Nippon Ichi, Namco Bandai, Gust, and Idea Factory. Released September 25, 2008 in Japan, the game features turn-based battles, a plot that involves rescuing souls, and the ability to dress the female characters of the player's party in a wide variety of outfits. The game features characters from Darkstalkers, Disgaea, Ar tonelico, Spectral Souls, Atelier Marie and Mana-Khemia 2. NIS America published the game in North America, it was released for that NA on May 26, 2009, and is coming to the EU on July 10, 2009.

inFAMOUS

Infamous (stylized as inFAMOUS) is a sandbox-style video game for the PlayStation 3. Developed by Sony's own Sucker Punch Productions, the game was released on May 26 in North America and a few days later in Europe. Infamous details the story of Cole, a bike messenger who unknowingly delivers a package that contains a bomb. Cole survives the massive explosion and somehow develops electricity-based powers. Soon, he discovers that the city has fallen into chaos under the rule of gangs and factions, and must fight back against them to restore order. As you probably already read in our review and our news stories regarding the game, inFAMOUS is a must-buy for PS3 owners.

Atelier Rorona

Atelier Rorona is a turn-based anime-style RPG which released exclusively on the PlayStation 3 on June 25 in Japan. The PS3 had been going through a drought of RPGs, but they finally started to flow in after last year's White Knight Chronicles. Rorona will continue the series' emphasis on crafting and synthesizing. Not much is known about the game, but hey, it's a traditional JRPG so we can't complain.

SuperCar Challenge

SuperCar Challenge is an upcoming PS3 exclusive simulation racer developed by Eutechnyx, the same company behind Ferrari Challenge. The game boasts 40+ supercars including the likes of the Bugatti Veyron and Aston Martin DBR9, and 20+ tracks such as Nurburgring (Grand Prix section) and the Silverstone Circuit. It also features 16 player online, weather effects, 7 different driving views and much much more. Look forward to this title, coming later this summer.

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time is an upcoming platform-shooter developed by Insomniac Games exclusively for the PlayStation 3. It is the sequel to Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, and is the conclusion of the Future saga. The game is scheduled for release on PlayStation 3 in the third or fourth quarter of 2009, and Insomniac rarely delays their games. Ratchet & Clank Future is the best console platformer available this generation, and I'm not just saying this because I work at a PS3 website—I own every console, and while Super Mario Galaxy is good, it is simply not as good as Ratchet & Clank. It's hard to explain this to people, but Ratchet & Clank feels like it's for all ages—it's funny, has good voice acting as well as superb graphics, and is a title that is not to be missed.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is an upcoming action-adventure game in development by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation 3. It is the sequel to the highly successful Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and is the next graphical powerhouse for the PlayStation 3. Unlike the previous game, Uncharted 2 boasts a complete package, containing online multiplayer (both competetive and co-op), as well as a single-player campaign. Look forward to playing this game sometime around November 2009.

Final Fantasy XIII

Final Fantasy XIII is a console RPG being developed by Square Enix. It was originally slated to be released exclusively for PlayStation 3 in all regions, but is now only exclusive in Japan. First appearing at E3 2006, the game's features are futuristic and set in a high-tech world. Judging by the trends of previous Final Fantasy games, this one is likely to be a system seller yet again. We're happy that Japanese PS3 owners get to play this game exclusively on PS3 and those who can't wait can always import the title. Look forward to playing this game in late 2009.

Honorable Mentions

The following three games deserve an honorable mention for having a significant amount of new content exclusive to the PS3.

- Ninja Gaiden Sigma (Fall 2009)
- Tales Of Vesperia (September 17 2009, Japan)
- Command & Conquer 3 (March 2009)

The following three games deserve an honorable mention because they are either semi-exclusive (i.e. only on Sony platforms), or have been released this year in some regions, but last year in others.

- SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation - EU/AU March 2009, US/JP Oct 2008
- Singstar Queen - March 20 2009 EU/AU, August 18 2009 US
- Singstar Take That - Ocober 2009 UK

There you have it, all the full games that have been released, or will be released in 2009. This list doesn't include several exclusive PSN titles, re-released PS1 titles, and a few other Japanese PS3 titles (e.g. Agarest Senki, The Last Rebellion).

Of course taste in games is subjective, but Sony has offered the widest choice of genres available (Racing, RPG, Action, Adventure, Platforming, Shooter etc.), and this doesn't include multiplatform titles. Each game in its respective genre out-performs other similar titles in terms of quality and gameplay, and because of this, PCN feels that 2009 is the year of the PS3.

Out of that entire list I think I am looking forward to Ratchet and Clank ACIT the most.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I don't know, if GT5 can manage to come out this year, this article would make more sense. Other than that, the line up is good, up to par with the competition, but nothing too spectacular.

OK!? Kinda weird that this thread coming from you.

Yakuza 3 is the fourth installment in the Yakuza video game series, developed and published by Sega exclusively for the PlayStation 3. The Japanese version was released in Japan and South East Asia on February 26, and a subtitled version was released in Korea a day later.

This one brighten up my day so I hope it's an english subtitled version.

Pretty good lineup. Still think 2008 was better though, with the triumphant triforce of Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet and Valkyria Chronicles. (Not to mention Siren, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, SOCOM, and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.)

What year hasn't been the year of the ps3? Been hearing that every year.

If I had a ps3 I would be looking forward to Uncharted 2 and R&C. R&C looks neat.

Every year is the year of the PS3.

Shouldnt we be just calling it "Generation PlayStation" by now?

You're just posting this to be ironic, the humour is in the timing amirite?

Tease.

Also, your list is missing MAG.
