Forums - Gaming Discussion - How long do you play a game before you realize you dont like it?

I know its not the best titles in the world but I have a hard time explaining it.

Basically how long does it take you to stop playing a game because you realize it sucks or its just not your type of game. (Big difference)
And how many games in a series do you play before you can say you dislike the series.

Ive been in arguments about this before and someone even said I had to play Gran Turismo for 20 hours until it got good. Yes they were serious and not joking. They said I didnt give it enough time. I find that insane. Im not gonna force myself through 20 hours for a game to get good.

I usually wait at least an hour maybe two. I gave Okami three and it never sold me. Twilight Princess was pretty annoying for the first hour but after that it really picked up. Ive never managed over an 2hr with Final Fantasy because they just bore the shit out of me for the whole time. People know what they like so for most people I think its the same. You give it a little bit of time and if youre not being sold on it you stop. A good games hooks you right away or very soon. It should not take more than an hour to tell if youre gonna like the game or for the game to get better.

I play at least two games in the series before I say I dont like the series or that it sucks. Im sure lots of people only play one game in a series and troll it saying every game in the series sucks. I give series two chances. Hell I gave FF multiple shots.

So how about you?

It all depends on the game, really. Some games I can go like 10 hours before thinking it's dull, and some games 20 minutes. But you're right, if people say a game takes 20 hours before it gets good, you should stay the hell away from it.

When determined I give it a lot of time. I spent 10 or so hours loathing Starfox Adventures before I called it quits. Its one of the only game I have ever committed myself to but never finished. I really wanted it to get better but it was a kiddied down version of a Zelda game.

Other games are crap out of the box(Superman 64) and give me 20 minutes tops because you know what you are going to get for the rest of the game. More involved games(rpgs, avdentures) can get more time.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I can usually tell that I won't like a game from looking at it. A lot of my friends criticize me because I refuse to play WoW (they forced me and I got to level 8 before I got really bored) - they say it doesn't get good until later on.

I'm sorry, but I shouldn't have to work before I get to enjoy a game. I play a game for entertainment, not because it might be entertaining in the long run.

It depends on the game. For RPGs I give it at least 5 hours to decide whether it's worth playing or not. I usually end up finishing most of my RPGs even though I'm not loving it. I'm currently playing Infinite Undiscovery and I don't really like it, but I'm still gonna finish it... waste of time, I know. but, oh well.

with other games I usually give it an hour or two. Or in Street Fighter 2 HD Remix's case, 5 minutes, lol.

I didn't like Mass Effect for the first 5-10 hours, and now I absolutely love it. If you have no patience and miss out on great games, that's your problem.

I usually finish it before I can judge it. It's because I'm an optimist always trying to look forward to something that I may like. From that, I usually grow to like the game in the end...

So there are only a few instances where I don't like a game such as when it is completely unplayable before I could finish it.

I'm sorry Monti, 10 hours is way too much time spent on a game to start liking it.  How long is Mass Effect?

Depends. Sometimes, I'll play a game for 20 or so minutes and never play it again because I don't. Sometimes I play a game for 3 hours and, even enjoying it, I simply forget about it. Sometimes I can leave games after 20 hours.

For example, I played 15-20 hours of Dragon Quest, 2-3 of Halo,, 5-6 of Okami, 6-7 of Kingdom Hearts and 7-8 of Mass Effect and left all of them realizing I didn't like them (with varying degrees of dislike)

No patience? Lol. Waiting 10 hours isnt patience its overkill.

I will never play something I dont like for 10 hours thats absurd.
