Tecmo Koei: "Please cut the price" of PS3

CEO of the newly-formed publisher Tecmo Koei, Kenji Matsubara, has said he "would welcome a price cut for PS3", and has made his request known to Sony in past meetings.

"Whenever I discuss this with Sony reps I always ask them: 'Please cut the price', but I don't have a clear view on Sony's situation," Matsubara told CVG during an interview.

"Yes, from a publisher's point of view we would welcome a price cut for PS3, and we are waiting, definitely," he added.

"It's definitely a way of boosting the PS3 market, but it's Sony's strategy and I don't know their cost structure. Sony introduced cutting-edge technology in the PS3, that's why people in the industry accept that the PS3 cost is so high, but we'd welcome a price cut."

A price cut will drive sony further into debt, and we'll have less first party exclusive titles. So not yet pls (cause I already own a PS3) :P

it'll be too little too late in any case.... the year of the PS3 is long gone, it'll be multiHDconsole even in JP now.

Well at least they admitted they dont know Sony's cost structure, and werent outright demanding a PS3 price cut. I can see how they would be frustrated though.

If they release the PS3 slim there is a possibility that the manufacturing cost of that could warrant a price cut they could afford. It is possible that the Slim could cost them up to $100 less to make, and therefore allowing them to cut the price. And they would lose no more money than they are now with the current PS3s.

i am pretty sure that once the PS3 is released from that price cocoon, it will consume everything..............NGS2 is my most anticipated game for 2009 btw.

You can beg all you want, Tecmo. You're not even wrong to do so. But if Sony can't afford to cut the price, then Sony can't afford to cut the price, and that's all there is to it.

i remember read something months ago that sony said they hope the ps3 will break even in march its now july if u ask me i think they are making profit of the ps3 but dropping the price will put them back to square 1
