I know this is irelivent but i went into my local Game on saturday and had a quick chat with the manager. He told me that they had actually not sold a PS3 in a week while the 360 had been doing a lot better then the Wii of late. He informed me that the PS3 sales had dropped severely a month ago and to try and combat that Game had now put together a new bundle. He said it was a bundle with a 80GB PS3 and 4 games, being Ghostbusters,Infamous,Fight Night 4 and Call of Duty 4 Game of The Year Edition, he did not say a price but said around £300. For three brand new games and a game that is possibly the best on any format this generation that is pretty amazing. So i think from what he said if it really is true that he had not sold a PS3 in a week then these numbers could actually be on the right path. Guess we will see.

Thanks for sharing, so if we extrapolate that store across the world then PS3 sold a total of 0 units worldwide last week.

@hruken

so did he not sell a single wii either?

otherwise your "conclusion" is weird

as PSWii are tied in UK according to these numbers

I will have to ask him, the store is not very big though as is only a little town. I would imagine they probably sold a few Wii's and a few more 360's. As i said he did not give an indication of Wii sales just said 360 had been performing better then Wii in recent weeks in his store. I take that to mean in this store the Wii had been maybe selling 2 or 3 more a week then the 360 but now maybe the 360 is selling 1 or 2 more then the Wii. If i go into London this weekend i will pop into HMV and ask them how they are doing, see if what they say is the same.

Wii sales were always going to drop off eventually so i don't think anyone is surprised by that really. But what i think is making people not believe this is simply the fact the 360 has jumped so much so soon. That makes it look slightly dodgy. But if what the guy in the store told me was true across the wider region and that it was like that in the cities then it would be on the right track. It is just a question of finding out if that local trend is indeed a national one.

@BKK2

and so did wii

as apparently wii = PS3 in the UK

well done hyruken......we'll always believe in you now

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I could not care less if you believe me or not darth, makes zero difference to me. Why would i lie about that? I mentioned ages ago that from speaking to people in stores and in general the pattern of sales they mention to the ones VGC shows does not seem to match, it would appear if these numbers are true that i was right, as were others who mentioned it. But being right makes no difference, does not effect anything or anyone no matter what they are. If the Wii sold 3m more units then the 360 or PS3 will change nothing other then the figures. The guys behind the website are normally very accurate with their figures especially in america. But sometimes mistakes happen. As i said we will see wont we.

@BKK2 - Uk saw the smallest boost back at the end of last year following the price cut since 360 sales were already so strong over here. 360 was all but dead everywhere outside of the UK this time last year.

I know that 360 is up YOY - our data shows that as does that graph posted from Nintendo's briefing - I haven't disputed that. 600k in 5 months would mean that 360 has been selling about 50% in the UK of what it has been selling in the US (with less than 20% of the population). Also sales always slow in April and May from Feb and March (back to Nintendo's graph).

We've already said that the DS figure could be as high as 550k if the rounding works in your favour but even then the 360 figure still seems unreasonable.

With rounding it could be as low as 0.5m, NPD had X360 at 1.1m Feb-May, when June figures come in it will probably be ~1.3m (rounding FTW) which would be ~40% of lowest possible UK number. Despite having a population 20% the size of America, UK sold 27% of US hardware last year (9.3m Vs 34.7m), X360 is priced far more competitively in UK (even cheaper than Wii) than US, so I don't see why it's illogical that UK X360 sales can outperform X360 US sales.

Even though the numbers are a bit weird, one thing that is clear is that Wii sales are NORMAL now, considering what normal is for Wii, lol. But I do think that price raise in the UK is a problem, and eventually may lead to Nintendo bring the Wii into the same price range as the XB360...

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

We compare UK with France. Why not to do the comparison with the DS:

In UK, between january and june, we have approximatively:
DSL ~300k
DSI ~300k

In France, between january and may, we have approximatively:
DSL~400k
DSI~300k

So maybe, if we go to the end of june, numbers for DSL And DSI are apprximatively the same, which seems to be the same situation in UK.

So UK numbers are not so surprising.

At the end of may, the DSI has certainly sold more than 530k in France and UK (i take 230k for UK)
We know from Nintendo, that the DSI has sold 1 million in Europe at the end of may:

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/dsi-hits-1-million-in-europe

In Italy, we know that the DS (DSL+DSI) sold 105,500 in april:
http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=5729&page=49
with 96,49% of the sales are DSI sales:
http://www.forumeye.it/invision/index.php?showtopic=489788
So for Italy, it sold 100k DSI only in april and maybe 50k in may too.

So for UK, France and Italy, we already have 680k sales for DSI. For Spain and Germany, i don't know the numbers, but maybe, it's as in Italy, which give 980k for France , UK, Spain, Italy and Germany.

So the figure of 300k+ in UK for april to june is really possible.

Now, is the problem of the 500k DSL sold in Europe between april and may, as they said in the same link of the million DSI. I don't know, where the sales are.

Lol, cherry picking for the win!

Yes in the extreme case, we could have 40% of US sales vs 27% for total hardware sold. DS is much bigger in the UK than US as is PS3 so that skews the figure a fair bit for the 27%. A more realistic comparison would be the 50% I first posted (taking 600k as everyone is assuming) vs 22-23% for the general UK:US Xbox ratio we have seen in previous years. Selling twice as fast as it "should be" is unreasonable to me, even given the price point (and arcades are cheaper than Wiis in America as well).

ioi, why don't you just admit your site is wrong for once (nothing wrong in being wrong sometimes), GFK has a far more reputable name than vgc, vgc is always changing the sales figures trying to correct errors, I know who I would believe......

I don't get all this rounding stuff and I am too tired to focus on it (just wrote my next exam, this time corporate governance)

So if you guys come to a conclusion, send me a Message please. I really want to see the adjustments and how big they will be.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

go go xbox 360, this great sales, will definitely bring price cut to xbox 360
