Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Will we see a Halo Wars 2?

While I didn't really like Halo 3, I did really enjoy Halo Wars. Yes it is simplified, but Ensemble have done a great job making it still feeling satisfying, but great to control. Oh, and amazing CG! I have never played online multiplayer in an RTS, but I have taken advantage of my month of gold for £1, and have really really enjoyed it.

Anyway, we all know that they have been closed, so will any other studio take up the mantle, or will one of the studios formed in the result (Robot Entertainment, Bonfire Studios and a few more). The game sold fine, so it was likely a profitable venture so surely Microsoft would want to keep the "franchise" going and expand Halo further

we just got the original. this isn't Left four dead xD

though i would like a sequel

@ dsister, well I finished it last week and I already want another one!!! I have spent 24 hours on it in the last few weeks

I don't think so... I mean, why do another RTS when a new FPS Halo could sell +5m?

Course not. MS made its mind of not making another when they closed the studio.

And I think was a good decision also.

Around the Network

not likely.
this was stated to be emsemble last game.
if does microsoft will probably give to another team. or outsource it like nintendo did metroid to team ninja.

Robot(I think it is Robot) is handling all the additional content for Halo Wars. If one is made, they will probably handle it.

Because believe it or not. It sold very well. And it would be a different studio to the one creating the FPS games. So they would be able to do both, nd make more money. Halo Wars has sold 1.32 million so far. Thats excellent by PC RTS sales as well.

And there was quite a few Ensemble employees kept on at M$ to.

I think we will see a Halo Wars 2.

Errmm...Robot Ent took over Halo War maintence and Content updates...
After Ensemble's closing, Robot Entertainment announced that it was developing downloadable content (DLC) for Halo Wars.[83] Pottinger described support as ongoing rather than a one-time effort and compared it to Bungie's post-launch additions to Halo 3. He stated that Robot would also work on balance issues, bug fixes, and other patches.[43]

The first DLC package, Strategic Options, added three new multiplayer modes. "Keepaway" is similar to capture the flag; in it, players try to capture and hold Forerunner units. In "Tug-of-war", players earn points by fielding large armies and destroying enemy units. In "Reinforcement", players receive units as reinforcements, rather than training them at bases. The amount of available resources and reactors determines which types of units are deployed and the upgrades they can earn.[84] Strategic Options was released on May 19, 2009,[85] after a patch that addressed software bugs and game balance issues.[86] The update garnered criticism for its small size (2 megabytes) and high price (800 Microsoft points). Pottinger responded on the Halo Wars forums that the game modes were small downloads "because they are rules. There is some new content, but it's obviously a different type of content compared to a map."[87]

I don't think that there will be a sequel, ensomble studios closed down.
