Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Tales of Vesperia Vs. Lost Odyssey

The time has come for me to gets me a Jrpg for 360 but I can't decide between these 2 games.

I can find LO used pretty easy but the guys at gamespot were tellinng me it's a generic game. Vesperia seems like more of a gem to me but I can't find it anywhere. I'm still playing FF 12 and replaying FF7 so I really want to get the best RPG I can not just an ok RPG.

So which would you choose: Lost Odyssey or Tales of Vesperia? If you've played through both your opinion is particularly valuable.

I've played through most of Lost Odyssey (still working on it), and I've played through the demo of Tale's of Vesperia.

I personally like LO much better than Tales, but that's just based on the combat system.
The story line for LO is pretty great, I can't say anything about Tales on that.

I'd say LO for the points I said.

get vesperia they discontinued it so the price will keep rising

I absolutely adored Lost Odyssey, but recently I picked Tales of Vesperia up (because it just got released over here, stupid Namco). Anyway, I've only played maybe 10 hours of Vesperia so far. But if you've got friends to play with, go with Vesperia. Playing co-op in the Tales-game is about as much fun as you could possibly have. It's just amazing. Even if you don't have any friends who want to play it with you, I'd still lean more towards Vesperia (and I really did love Lost Odyssey). That said, you can't really go wrong with either.

Totally different styles of RPG.

I've played both, And I will say that it ultimately comes down to personal preference. Lost Odyssey is an ode to old school RPG's while maintaining one of the best storylines in a video game to date (and one of the most unappreciated ones), Tales of Vesperia is a colorful, fun, game that you can sink your teeth into easily and lose 50-60 hours of your life. It's story won't win any awards, but is interesting enough and I happen to be a fan of the action -RPG sub genre.

I've played them both and i think LO is better... There both great games but LO to me had a better story in the end

Thank you Kowenicki

PS3 will need to outsell 360 by:

444,931 per month to catch it by Jan 2011. 102,676 per week.
266,958 per month to catch it by Jan 2012. 61,606 per week.
190,685 per month to catch it by Jan 2013. 44,004 per week.
148,310 per month to catch it by Jan 2014. 34,225 per week.

Current rate is:  -18,262 per month
Avge over last 6 mths
Negative number means 360 is outselling PS3 by that amount per mth on avge

Wonder if I should wait for a PS3 port to hit NA for Vesperia. These games go out of print so fast. Couldn't even find persona 4 yesterday.

there isnt any guarantee that the ps3 version of vesperia will actually come to NA.

However, I do have both and played through both. If I were to choose one that enjoyed more it would probably be Lost Odyssey. They both have their problems with annoying characters which is typical of any JRPG. However, LO's story is really well told, although it fizzles out in the end.

As it is, they are pretty much even to me with LO barely inching out over vesperia. I think you would be happy with either one though, so it is up to you.

Well, I haven't played Tales of Vesperia yet... It's next on my gamefly queue, but... LO is a fantastic game. It's much more FF7-ish. I guess it depends where you are in your JRPG lovings.

If you played and enjoyed classic JRPGs you'll definately appreciate LO. It's generic in the sense it's all been done before, but it melds all the classic JRPGs into one fantastic game. I was glued to the my Xbox while playing this game.

I played the demo to Vesperia only. I'm looking forward to playing it, but it's certainly a different game.

SO4 ... sucks... I know you didn't mention it, but I really really hated that game. I wanted to like it mainly because of the combat system. I just couldn't even get through the first CD before I couldn't take the story and voice acting anymore. It sat under my TV and slowed down my game queue because I hate sending back an unfinished game. Maybe I'll get back to it, but I couldn't waste my time with it anymore.

LO has outsold ToV over 2:1.
