Forums - Sales Discussion - Is It Worth Developing For PS3? - Bruce on Games to Investors

In related News, Blu-Ray sales are FOUR TIMES what they were last year.

A lot of people play console games, but EVERYONE watches movies =)

I don't put nothing on Sony here I think the main thing that has changed with this generation is that gamers are better informed of which titles are lesser "me too" titles. We also are better informed to know how and when to pick up lesser games when they go on sale and not pay full price. Today we have G4 and hundreds of dedicated gaming sites etc... where in the past we had to mostly rely on magazines that were also heavily sponsored by the very same games that were being reviewed.

If 3rd parties were smarter there are 2 things that I can think of that would help increase their sales,
#1 your heavy hitter games continue to price them at your full $59.99 price, but your me too type of games should be $39.99 (and that includes expansions on games like the extra incarnations of Guitar Hero)
#2 they should do something unique for each version to boost their sales between multi-console owners. An example of what I mean is that multiplayer mode could be exclusive to 360, bonus campaign levels on PS3, Party content only available on Wii. (of course they could have a upgrade option available as DLC later). They do this now for Music CD's 2 free exclusive bonus tracks if you buy your CD from Target, and then you go into Best Buy and they also have 2 exclusive bonus tracks that are totally different, if you are a fan of the band you may just buy the same CD twice for those songs.

yeah, ps3 is doomed....for the trolls...

It's impossible to make money on PS3 without 4M+ plus sales. PS3 is doomed.

Out of the 30 or so games published by Activision for the PS3, only ONE game passed 4 million, the next drops to 1.9 million

The average game on the PS3 if you take out GH and COD sells about 250,000 copies. It would actually be a GOOD business move for Activision to drop every game PS3 game, other than CoD and GH which do make them money.

Thats an interesting list. I tried looking for them earlier, but I didn't realise that Activision covered both the pre and post merger. But yeah I would have to agree that they would have been better off not making anything other than COD and GH3 for the PS3.

That sums it up right there.

Believing in the PLAYSTATION®3......IS.......S_A_C_R_I_L_E_G_E

I really can't think of an Activision game besides CoD, WoW, or Guitar Hero anyway.

Gebx you're just loving this Activision thing aren't you? PS3 software sells, sometimes better than 360 software.

Just because someone develops a crap game doesn't mean the platform is bad. Look at the Wii, people develop crap games and then blame it on other games stealing their market. If you make a better game, you make a better return on that game.

Everyone just wants to blame everyone else.

And like so many other things in life, that list needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

On that list, there are 27 titles which have been released, and we have data for. Nine of those are movie tie-ins, two are history channel games  and Prototype has only just been released.

Fishing and hunting games don't do very well on either PS3 or the 360, as opposed to on the Wii, and many of those games sold lowly on the 360 as well. Quake Wars, Fracture and SCORE International BAJA for example.

I'm not saying that some of these titles don't "undersell" on the PS3, like Tony Hawk Project 8, but if Activision want to make more money off the PS3, my suggestion would be to produce better games.

I am selling my xbox I dont give a F*ck what they do. Activision threatens Sony and at the same time made the better version of Prototype on PS3....what is going on????

PS3 Trophies

neither console is doomed.

it's the current concept of game making and marketing that is doomed
