Forums - Gaming Discussion - Final Fantasy 13 vs Tales of Graces

Why are all of you rating games that haven't come out yet?

I am shaking my fist at all of you!

I went to bed before this thread started, but...

Final Fantasy 13... will dominate.

Tales of graces no doubt it´s imo a far more interesting and enjoyable game

From Casey Loe's review of Tales of Vesperia in Play Magazine:

The one and only way in which Tales of Vesperia fails to improve upon its predecessors is its story. The central plot concerns a material called “blastia” that is widely used to protect human settlements from monster attacks, but comes from mysterious origins and may not be as benign as originally thought. It’s a story you’ve seen before, but Vesperia takes it to such an insane level of technical detail that it ultimately becomes every bit as confusing as it is boring. At least it makes for a good drinking game—a sip whenever someone says “blastia,” two sips whenever someone says “aer krene,” and a full shot whenever you hear “Entelexeia” or “apatheia.” Just don’t play it with real alcohol, or you’ll be dead within 20 minutes.

Of course, Tales games have always relied more on the charms of their cast than the intricacies of their plot, but in that, too, Vesperia disappoints. Despite the generally strong voice acting and fully-voiced skit scenes (a first for a North American Tales release), none of the supporting characters manage to be anywhere near as much fun as Jade or Anise were in Tales of the Abyss. Maybe the problem is the frequently stilted dialogue, or maybe it’s just that so many of the game’s event scenes amount to nothing. For example, after nearly every quest in the first half of the game, your party spends five minutes saying their good-byes to each other only to—surprise!—find some reason to reunite 20 seconds later. You could make a fine drinking game out of that, too.

Ok this guy is off. Tales of Vesperia's story is not that hard to follow. It complex and i love complex stories. Also Anise sucks.

LMAO. If he thinks Vesperia was a hard story to follow, I'd like to see him try to play Mass Effect, Bioshock, or worse Metal Gear Solid. This guy is a twit.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Sorry, I had to do it.

Lol. You do know the thread has essentially become a Tales vs. antiTales thread right?

Yes, but the premise of it is rating games that haven't come out yet, which is a practice that has always bothered me.

Don't force me to slap you, seraphic. Lame? hell no.

While maybe Lame isn't the best word, the Tales series is hardly top notch and should be compared with other B-rate series like Star Ocean.

List of Highest Rated Tales Games from IGN

Tales of Destiny II -- 8.5 PS1
Tales of Symphonia -- 8.5 Gamecube
Tales of the Abyss -- 8.3 PS2
Tales of Vesperia -- 8.2 360 Is the best game in the entire franchise. 8.2 is a joke.
Tales of Legendia -- 7.7 PS2

List of Highest Rated Final Fantasies from IGN

Final Fantasy VII -- 9.5 -- PS1 Most overrated game of all time.
Final Fantasy X -- 9.5 -- PS2
Final Fantasy X-2 -- 9.5 -- PS2 Took the excellent setting of FFX and completey ruined it.
Final Fantasy XII -- 9.5 -- PS2 Excellent concept, awful exexcution
Final Fantasy IX -- 9.2 -- PS1

So, one can see that to even begin to compete Tales of Graces will have to better than the best Tales games Symphonia and Destiny II, but I still think if it manages to do that Graces will only wind up being a 9.0 at best. On the other hand, I think the PS3 version of FFXIII will be the first 10 game at IGN since GTA IV and MGS 4, so I defintely give the nod to FFXIII.

No matter what the quality of the game actually is, a mainline FF game almost never scores below a 9.  FFIX and FFX are leagues ahead of VII,X-2, and XII yet they have the same score range.

But they have before and FF13 will likely gets some 8s as well.

I remember that FF8 had an average below 90.

With the exception of Vesperia, I haven't found a Tales game that I can even tolerate, including Symphonia, Radiant Mythology and Eternia. **I do, however, own both Legendia and Abyss and am looking to start them soon. Normally, I wouldn't have bothered after having tried three times already, but after Vesperia, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt

For me, the answer is likely to be FFXIII. As much as I loved Vesperia, I still prefer the vast majority of Final Fantasy games to it.

Even FF12?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really enjoyed 12. I didn't enjoy it as much as my favourite FF's, but nonetheless, it was a fantastic game.

Was it better than ToV? I think so. Much better? No.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I........i can't...believe....what i'm reading.

some people are just FF fanatics, nothing wrong with that.

You're delusional if you think that recognizing the Final Fantasy series is better than the Tales makes them Final Fantasy fanatics. Or that he can't simply just enough much higher quality product.
