GT4 managed 2.5x Forza 2's LTD sales with 8.6x the audience. Care to consider how that matchup would go in the current generation, when it has 0.66x the audience?

Install base makes hardly any difference when you get to a certain point.

Gran Turismo Prologue sold 385,000 units in Europe first week.

The PS3 install base at the time was 11.4M.

So on a similar install base, GT5:P's European first weeks sales outsold Forza 2's worldwide first week sales.

I'm not questioning that GT is the bigger franchise and that it will outsell Forza - I mentioned a few counter facts to put those you listed in perspective. Yours made it seem like "wow! GT is 10x the franchise forza is!" when the actuality of the matter is that forza is a series gaining fans and momentum, and while GT will outsell it, it won't be completely obscured by GT's shadow.

GT5 will likely hit 2M WW first week. If Prolouge launched higher than Forza 2 then GT5 will smoke F3 in sales.

GT5s first week could be around what Forza3 does life time. This is like comparing Halo to Bioshock, you can say one is as good as the other all you want but sales wise its not even remotely close.

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue has sold 3.05 million according to VGC data.
Forza 2 has sold 3.99 million according to VGC data.
Both were bundled with their respective system but Forza was more heavily bundled. Note also that Forza isn't so big in Japan where GT is big. Forza has brought in a croud too but I don't see Forza selling half of what GT does on opening week. GT's Japan first week sales alone could beat that of Forza 3's WW first week sales. I don't think Forza could do over 600 k WW in one week unless bundled but I could be wrong since the game has sprouted some big hype concerning it's status against the GT series. But when going up against each other in a raw sales battle it's pretty obvious who's gonna come out on top but not only will GT beat Forza for the first week (and the rest of them too) but PS3 will also get a pretty big increase in sales and imagine how big it would be if Sony cut the price on the PS3.

Gran Turismo should easily outsell Forza.  Why anybody would strive to be popular on a website is beyond me...

PD reported that they shipped 3.67m GT5P including PSN downloads. And that was a couple months ago.

Yeah, Forza 3 have a chance of outselling GT 5 like KillZone 2 outselling Halo 3. We all know how that turn out. LOL.
