Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you think Wii Sports would sell as much as did if it wasn't bundled?

We'll never know but I would estimate 10-15 million sales if it hadn't been bundled.

Wouldnt sell more than 5 million if it wasnt attached. I mean how many gamers actually play that 3 months after they buy it? None. Unless they did not buy any new games.

Then why is it the seventh most played game on the Wii?

Wow! How wrong can you be? It's not bundled in Japan and it sold 3.5 million. So you're saying that it wouldn't have sold more than 1.5 million copies in the Americas and Others in 2.5 years.

I would have to agree on this.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Since it has twice the install base of any other Wii game, it actually is the most played game on the Wii, and probably of the generation.

The other games can fight over most played per owner.

no, it wouldn't. it's a crap package of some watered down party games.

Considering Wii Fit has already sold 20 million copies, i think Wii sports would have sold 30-35 million by now.

WiiFit was bundled with new revolutionary hardware (The Balance Board), WiiSports was nothing more then an interesting tech demo. To be honest as a launch title and its lifespan till today I'd expect around 10-million in sales maybe a tad more. I think WiiSports Resort bundled with WiiMotionPlus will answer the question, we will be able to see how well WiiSportsResort sells and based on that can see how well WiiSports may have sold had it not been bundled.

I know I for one am considering getting my WiiMotionPlus bundled with RedSteel2 rather then getting WiiSportsResort. I think WiiSportsResort will sell well thanks to the publicity WiiSports has thanks to it being bundled. In the end WiiSports was a cheaply developed tech demo and WiiSports Resort is while not as small as WiiSports still cheaply developed.

The main thing we can be sure of, Nintendo is going to make a fortune for very little effort. Unfortunetly it goes to show you that Nintendo is getting lazy. No longer launching multi-year big budget titles instead opting for smaller month to year long tech demo's!

The game (I don't even consider it a game, it's more like a tech demo) is so bad...I mean who would pay 59,99$ for that...

A tech demo like Duck Hunt was to the lightgun? Or Mario 64 to the analog stick?

Duck Hunt and Mario 64 are no tech demo.

Wii Sports is way more advanced than Duck Hunt.  Duck Hunt had 3 ways to play, that were all variations on the same thing, and didn't keep high score, or save your skill level with your character, or have 5 different sports, or training modes with trophies to win, and a daily fitness test.

So how is the more advanced game a tech demo?  Because it doesn't have online or a narrative with a boss and an ending?  Because Duck Hunt had none of those.
