Forums - Gaming Discussion - WHEN did u give up on Nintendo?

I never grew up with Nintendo. My son did and he left (sorta) GC for PS2 and then Wii (sorta since he still plays it) for 360. And DS for PSP.

For myself, I had an Atari, Bally, Spectravision, Vetrex (all my brothers) and my last system (mine) was a Colecovision. Then I went to PC and never returned until Wii (I bought it off my son, so it's only the 2nd console I've ever owned).
I do play on my son's 360 for some PC type games (Mass Effect). I'd prefer them on PC but it's not worth the $$$ to upgrade to play them on PC when a 360 is right there.

But of the 24 odd games in my wishlist. 20ish are for Wii. So if anything I abandoned my PC for my Wii.

Gave up on them in what way? I made a bit of a jump with the Genesis vs the SNES (never got the system until late, because I collect systems). I have always hung around them in one way or another though. I tended to root for underdog systems along the way, despite my logical brain saying it is folly.

I've been playing games for a bit and while i can understand having another preference for a first or single console, if you have given up on Nintendo games you need to hand in your gamer card. You can't seriously call yourself a gamer if you are willing to pass up some of the best games out there just because you don't like or prefer the company who makes them.

Never have, probably never will.

I gave up on Nintendo after I played the Wii, and Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and a couple of other games. I just didn't see what all the hubbub about motion controls were, especially when I found myself wishing for a regular dual-analog gamepad while I was playing those games.

N64 and that god awful controller. I tried to support the system, but I grew up and Nintendo didn't. The games for the system just did not match my tastes. They lost the RPG war and thus my support. I continue to buy Nintendo, but only at EOL.

way to show you don't know much about the system.

Anyways, I never gave up on Nintendo. Why give up on the best developer in the world.

He was probably just trolling, but I can't help but think that your opinion is just as subjective as his is on this one. Some people think the Wii has an amazing library. Some people don't. It's all a matter of preference. Does the Wii have a large appeal to casual gamers? Yes. Is that a bad thing? Not as long as they continue to release great core games at the same time and making seemingly casual games more appealing to gamers then it's all fine in my opinion at least.

Anyone who says there aren't enough good games on a console to own it are either ignorant, trolling, or they are so picky that they can't find anything and I would hardly call them a gamer. I can tell you I generally don't like the main games on X360 (Halo, Gears), but there are more than enough games to warrant a purchase if I had the time and extra money. I have 3 systems now (Wii, DS, PS3), and I go through periods of not playing at least 1 every once in a while. So yes, my opinion of Nintendo being THE best is subjective, they are definitely one of the best and you can't really argue with that.

Now, the fact that "casuals" mostly buy Wii has no merit on the quality of the system and games, as the PS2/PS1 were both the "casual" systems and had the majority of the crapware, but they had plenty of good games too. Even if I never bought a PS1 and didn't get a PS2 till late in its life cycle I'd still acknowledge that they have plenty of great games.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I haven't given up on Nintendo. Like others, I was raised on Nintendo systems: NES, GB, SNES, N64. For the first time ever, I went all of last generation without a nintendo system (excluding a short and frustrating bit with an original gba). I bought a gamecube a little while ago, and quickly realized how much I missed Nintendo's games. They really offer a lot software wise on all their systems. Even though the ps2 had an extremely good library last gen, I can now see how someone would be satisfied with only a gamecube, and especially how I missed out on some gems by only owning the dominant system.

DS lites have been on sale for under $100 recently, and that really tempted me to pick one of those up. As far as the Wii goes, well, I have no interest in buying one for anywhere near $250. My gamecube was purchased for $25 with a game, and considering I'm still working through that library, I don't mind waiting a while to acquire one cheaply. It'll be like having a gamecube all over again, with an avalanche of exclusives to pick and choose from.

I was a hardcore Nintendo fan in my youth.
The NES era.
The Super Nintendo era.
And the first years of the Nintendo64.

And then it happened...
I grew up.
I liked games using the CD format. Giving us wonderful CGI animation and TRUE musical score (Panzer Dragoon anyone?, Astal?)

I always go for the best tech and powerful consoles. (That's why I only own a Xbox360 and a PS3).

Nintendo is dead to me.

My Gaming Setup

I gave up on Nintendo after I didn't enjoy Super Mario Galaxy, the controls were flawed, the camera was never in the right position, the game failed to impress, it might have been better if I could use a GCN controller though
