Forums - Sales Discussion - Betting Time: Week 1 for MH3, WSR, DQIX & HW Boosts in Japan

No idea! But what I'm most interested in will be the software bumps for traditional games on Wii from MH3. Muramasa, Tales, Fragile, Arc Raise. Will there be a demographic shift in Wii land?

I think there could be a wider userbase in store for Wii with Monster Hunter 3/ black console release in Japan. It won´t affect the more casual Wii Sports/Fit crowd of course since those will likely continue to grow. The best case scenario is where Wii gets a growing core AND casual userbase.

That's what I'm thinking samus. RPGs and traditional Japanese games have failed to get traction so far because until now(soon) there haven't been any system sellers of that sort. Well here one comes, and those people are going to want more than just one game. It really is weird just how slow Japanese devs have been to come around to the Wii. You'd think they'd have learned that lesson already with the DS... Anyways, I'm expecting decent bumps for Muromasa, Dawn of Symphonia and Arc Rise Fantasia.

You know. I just realized that I'm going to be in Tokyo during August 1st. I'll have to swing by a game shop and take a picture or two.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Yes! It is weird but I feel the time has finally come with Tales of Graces, Samurai Warrior 3 and most of all Monster Hunter 3.

Do take pictures! That would be awesome, can´t wait to see the Monster Hunter craze in Japan

I've edited the first post because I made some mistakes on what hw/accessory stuff is accompanying the titles.

As a side note, I think its likely that Wii will be over 300,000 for the week ending August 1 worldwide which would put it back to at least flat year over year levels. If Wii does ~90k that week in Japan I would say 350,000-500,000 is possible if Wii Sports Resort ends up being a home run in the west.

With Wii sales so much higher in the west than Japan though, even a 20% boost from WSR on the Aug 2 week means ~100k/120k/90k if Wii Sports Resorts keeps Wii to say ~30k-40k on the week before MH3 before the hw bundle and sw lift come.

Any last minute bets for Wii Sports Resort?

250,000+ looks like it is possible week one.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

I think this DQ will be the most sold DQ til now. Think like that, me and my brother are huge fans of DQ, we live togheter and have ONE PS2. We bought DQVIII and we made a bet to see who was going to play first(we hate sharing the same gameplay, mainly in RPG). Now, each one have your OWN DS, and we want to play DQIX, we buy each one your own copy of the game.
See? Thinking like this DQIX has big chances of beeing the most well sold DQ game ever.

If Dragon Quest IX can somehow get to 5.5m or so by the end of the year worldwide it should end up being one of the fifty best selling games of this decade.
