Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pikmin Franchise Over???(Do you think this gen will be the last of Pikmin)

Pikmin is one of Nintendo's least selling Franchise and has had 2 games so far only selling 2.6 Million together. NPC Pikmin has sold 330K and NPC Pikmin 2 has sold 90K without the U.S. Pikmin 3 is planned to come to Wii in 2010/2011. If this doesn't have amazing sales or amazing reviews(The 1st 2 got good reviews) could the Wii be the last we see of Pikmin?

I hope not.

You make a surprisingly good point. I think Pikmin 3 will have the final-say on whether or not
this franchise will continue seeing support.

But if anything, we will probably get another Pikmin when Wii2 comes out... hopefully Pikmin 3
will sell great.

I wouldn't think so. Fire Emblem couldn't dare to fantasize about that kind of sales in its wildest dreams, and yet there have been 11 installations in that franchise so far, spanning every generation.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I don't know how you think a million in sales each could possibly be seen as horrible sales. Especially on the GameCube considering its attach rate was so low. With the low sales of GameCube per capita Pikmin would be one of Nintendo's best selling franchises. No Pikmin is no Mario or Zelda but none the less it is one of Nintendo's bigger franchises.

We know based on the few facts availible that the new Pikmin is in the works by a smaller subdivision of EAD Tokyo. Nintendo probubly isn't dedicating the same amount of resources to Pikmin as they do other big franchises. This means a smaller team and smaller budget.

I think Nintendo will keep Pikmin around even if Pikmin 3 doesn't ship more then a million copies. Will it see two releases on the Wii like it did on GameCube? Probubly not but Pikmin is yet another of Miyamoto's brain children and as such won't get left out!

Plus I suspect Pikmin 3 will probubly reach 2-3 million copies sold. I'm sure thats why they re-released Pikmin to test the waters prior to releasing Pikmin3!

PIKMIN 1 & 2 were released on a far lower selling console so hopefully a new pikmin game for the wii will see a slight improvement (even if the npc versions haven't set the world on fire...) or even a great improvement. They should probably not call it '3' though in order to attract new potential buyers to the series (hopefully)...

I think Nintendo themselves are aware of the fact that it's more of a critically acclaimed series than a bestselling one, so they'll probably continue to make PIKMIN games as long as they feel there is a creative need to keep working on 'em...

Then again, even if P3 ends up being a stellar hit, nintendo may never make one again as they are strange...

I just did!

OT: I don't think Pikmin 3 will be th last game on sales. Many people who didn't buy the NPC
games was because they had th GC version already. So Pikmin GC buyers+ Pikmin wii buyers
PLUS! new people who bought it because it had good reviews PLUS! its a hardcore game
that will be release when their are hardly any new hardcore games=  milliom sales
I just hope they call it Pikmin wii. It'll sell millions and I think they should bundle it
with a dark green wii. Also they should've had pikmin 1 and 2 in one disc insted of
having it seperate and charge $30. This will insure that pikmin 3 will not flop

(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

of course the NPC versions did poorly... most people who care about the series already own the GC versions. No need to get the wii game.
it's too early to tell if Pikmin 3 will be the last we see of the series. we'll have to wait a while before we know for sure.

Not many people wanted to rebuy the games just for NPC. I think that Pikmin 3 will be successful (critically and commercially), but I also think that Pikmin is the type of franchise where there is a substantial timeframe between releases.
