Forums - Gaming Discussion - Super Mario World is the BEST Platformer EVER! New Super Mario World WANTED

I'd like to see a new 2D Mario platformer, still SMG is pretty awsome also, I might get a Wii just for that game when it comes down in price, but a nice 2D Mario would be great.

My favorite games for this gen:

1. Gears of War    2. MGS4    3. Killzone 2   4. Halo 3(Underated by many)      5. Mass Effect

NSMB Wii pretty much IS a sequel to Super Mario World. It's got crazy powerups, similar enemies, and rideable Yoshi, only now it's in 3D and Mario has all his great moves from later games.

I would have agreed that Super Mario World was the best platformer ever made before Super Mario Galaxy came out.

what what what what what

{faints}

Yeah!  Played it first-hand, and it definitely takes Super Mario World, brings it to the current generation, and adds three more players

OMG I'm PUMPED NOW!!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

DKC games are above it for me. Then Mario world

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

I have to agree that SMB3 > SMBW

More items (and cool ones too! Tanooki shoot, the shoe, and hammer suit), more levels (with some awesome variety too. I love Giant world), more secrets and mini-games. I remember having to collect all the coins on a level to turn the hammer bros. into a ghost ship...

SMW was great too... but SMB3 was just awesome. I really wish they'd make more of these games... I don't even care if they keep the simple 2D graphics. Keep all that is awesome from SMB3, and add the good stuff from SMW. It'd be great.

just download it on VC...

While Super Mario World is lots of fun, it has it's flaws. We'll never see the cape again due to how broken the item was. Just grab a cape and fly and beat any stage (for the most part) Blue Yoshi was pretty much the same deal. Not only that, but you can get to bowser in 11 levels. Granted a lot of that info wouldn't be known to someone new to the game, it is quite easy to figure out once you complete the game 100%. I beat the game way too much and I love it, but in no way want another version of it. I'd rather have a brand new 2D mario, which is what they are giving me

I believe the Wii New Super Mario Bros has yoshi in it, and Galaxy 2 definitely has multiple color yoshis. There is a good chance that NSMBWii will have multiple colored yoshis too.

Now the cape/blue Yoshi/highway to Bowser is handled by pressing a button and telling the game to beat itself.

Btw I think the SMB 1-2 to 4-1, 4-2 to 8-1 warps were just as 'broken.'  I guess the point always is, if you want to go through all the challenges, you will.

Super Mario World and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island are two of my favorite platformers of all-time. Don't make me choose between them.

As i was reading through this thread i was thinking about this and in the end i just can't choose either.  Nice to see the love that Yoshi's Island is getting.  I was in a thread the other day where some guy said that he thought it was only about an 8/10 game?
