Close Analysis of Gran Turismo 5 trailer, not so impressed.

"Analysis Report: Great deal of improvement required in graphics department."

"Although GT5 is going to feature lot more cars and tracks when compared to Forza Motorsport 3 but graphics wise Polyphony Digital have to improve a lot in many key areas before it can be showcased as final product by next year GDC or Sony E3 2010 press conference."

GT5 has alot to improve on. Cars look like they are slipping on ice and missing shadows everywhere.

Polygon count for car model: Forza 2= 100,000; PGR4= 100,000; GT4= 4,000; GT5:P= 200,000; Forza 3= 1,000,000

Forza 2

You do know the article you are using is trying to say "NBA HOMECOURT" is native 1080p and comparing it to GT5 prologue, already they are spouting bull $hit, since the game is not  native 1080p.

In any case if Forza 3 indeed has 1 million polygons, its surpassed GT5 prologue, but GT5 prologue still runs at a higher resolution, but it doesnt matter.

I've yet to see a non BS screenshot of Forza 3 showing better car models than GT5P. I agree that the environments are better detailed in Forza 3 though...although I'm comparing GT5P with Forza 3.

Well once forza 3 surpasses GT5 prologue's car models then we can talk.

Ummm...they already do and have since they showed of gameplay at E3.  Where have you been ?  Plus polygon count is 5 times of what GT5:P had so, I'm guessing you just didn't read the article he posted or something else.

Check out this car man. It looks 3 times as good as forza cars cause it has 3 times as many polygons !

Now.. It's fairly obvious that it doesn't. So what does all this mean ?

A box is still a box regardless of the amount of polygons you waste on it.

And the above contains 2.880.000 polygons.

Check out my game about moles ^

You say it has that many but the car without the wheels only has 10 flat sides.

Their quote of "10 x the poly count" could be the actual full quality models of each car that they are using in the game, but for only the showroom quality...but in reality it may only be 2 x the poly count whilst in actual gameplay mode.

i can believe 288 polygons because of the circular wheels. Other then that no. Somone wasted alot of time to make over that.

Well.....I'd like to see some form of proof or a way I can download some sort of "polygon counter", if you will, as to see whether your just spouting nonsense or not, are you sure that doesn't reference to 2.88 polygons too?

I already deleted it. I can make a new one though... hold on.

Okay same.. except this car can fly.. As you can see the wheels are spun differently.

This one is only 2 million polygons though. It seems that I miscalculated before since i used the same amount of objects and the same amount of verticles.

Regardless. Using the logic this cars is twice as detailed as a forza 3 one :p

You come across as though you know. But you dont. Now put that car with full texture maps and an environment to match Forza 3 and see if it runs with 8 cars at more than 10 frames per sec. Bet you it doesn't. You have to take into context everything else the engine is doing and what hardware limitations a console has.

You come across as though you're ignoring my point. Which you are. I don't care how well it runs. It makes my laptop lag just from me moving around in max.

All i'm saying is that more polygons doesn't mean more detail. Optimisation of your polygons does.

Next time i suggest you actually read what I write as you seem to like responding to me unrelated of my actual post.

@ Staude

I totally get where you're coming from...you could effectively create the object you have and render it with 1m polygons...and yes it wouldn't look any better.

What the poster said regarding the 2 different images of the Ferrari in Forza3 and GT5P is that the GT5P Ferrari looks better overall....the textures are better and the reflective surface looks better than the shaded surface of the Forza model. The Forza model may well have a significantly higher poly count than the GT5P model...but the GT model looks better overall.
