This might actually be true. Microsoft knows that the PS3 slim is coming, so they fix their bad architecture on the 360.

Yeah, no one likes the easy to develop for powerful architecture of the XBox 360 ...

The thing about Microsoft oriented 3rd party developers is that they will love any new thing Microsoft puts out. Last week a die hard, self labeled ".Net" (which is not a language) programmer suggested helpfully that I should implement my chromosomal analysis algorithm in ".Net" instead of C and FORTRAN as he does with every project I do.

I am convinced that if they took the cell, renamed it "Xenon II", all of those grumpy developers would be "super excited to be working on such a cutting edge architecture".

Only twice as much RAM, only on par with the Cell and still uses a DVD drive. Fake!

Yes, this is very much full of fail.  One would expect the next XBox to be as much of a jump over the 360 as the 360 was over the original XBox:

* Memory, expect 8x more.  This means about 4GB of Ram (we are getting more than this on PCs now)

* Disk media, expect MAYBE a DVD player ONLY as a way to play old 360 games.  Would make sense to go for a Blu-Ray player.  Maybe the system will be digital downloads only, while play 360 games currently.  Having a way to download games to a super SD card (storage up to 2 Terabytes) would be another option to consider, along with download station.  You keep retailers happy as people can come in and pay for downloading games.  You can also have cards that enable saves to be stored.  You include 32GB storage inside, in order to handle OS updates, and so on.

* No mention AT ALL of a Natal type control.  Why would they list specs on the Next XBox and now have it include motion control?

* As much of a jump in CPU speed and horsepower for the Next XBox as the 360 had over the original XBox.

* Graphics, able to do 1080p the way we do 720p now.

Yeah, that would be great. However, the minimum specs I would want is the following:

1. 12 cores (4 times more than 360)

2. 4gb of ram

3.1200mhtz (or AT LEAST 900mthtz) instead of 600

4. 250gb hdd minimum day one

5. An ugrade over DVD (Blu-ray, whatever) I just want something that can hold over 20gb on one disc.

I guess Balmer really did mean it when he screamed 'developers' over and over until he sounded like a choked chicken.

umm if M$ uses anything less than 8 cores, a dual GPU and anything below 4gigs of RAM.. its gonna be stomped by the PS4.. No reason to launch the 720 till 2011/12, not unless they wanna alienate everyone who owns a 360.

MS and everyone else in the world is looking at Nintendo's success with the Wii and aren't really concerned about Hardcore PC gaming rigs.

Sure.. but 50% of the market is HD consoles too. in a span of 4 yrs we have evolved from single core CPU's to quad cores. its fair to say that in another 2-3 yrs we would be having 8 core CPU's.. RAM is so cheap now I dont think there is any reason for MS/SONY/Nin to use less than 1GB in future consoles. MS need to have a powerful system if they want it to be the console of choice for PC devs. Otherwise they have nothing to offer over nintendo's 1st party lineup.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

Why would you want that, you have to care for the Pony, I just want something that will get Square Enix and Polyphony Digital to actually finish their games, and something to allow me to choose which game developers make, the next stage of the Xbox games on demand system

No Blu-Ray format for game discs? I tell you this MS would be fools to leave out Blu-Ray in their next system. DVD is a dying format and game developers will not be happy.
DVD holds only 6.8Gb of data per disc. Blu-Ray holds 50Gb per disc.

The Blu-Ray is very very very slow, and that's why you have installation of games in your HD.

But if you have a hard drive...

Second, 'very very very slow' is an overstatement.

Third, PS3 has a 2-speed drive...no reason a newer console couldn't have a faster one, 4-speed or more.

Fourth, Blu-Ray discs hold a lot of data, which is a big deal, and which is set off against all other considerations.

Why? Am I wrong? Microsoft will NOT adopt the Blu-Ray, they probably will try to push a new DVD or something better. If you don't install the game, you will notice a lot of slowdown and other problems, this shows that the Blu-Ray is not perfect and the best that Microsoft can do is try to use something else. Is a good thing that they aren't using the Blu-Ray, this shows that they are thinking about use something better (and I am not talking about the PS3, because the PS3 is a great system, but the Blu-Ray is a crap that only have big space but has a lot of problems, you can kill an elephant with a dog, but it's the right way?).

And sorry for my bad english.

@Edit: And again, this is not trolling, the ps3 is an EXCELENT console.

What kind of problems does the Blu ray have? Look how the guys above explained how great Uncharted streams data off of the Blu ray disc (MikeB and Munkeh).

That's why we have installations for some games. The Blu-Ray is slow and can't handle some games. People think that the Blu-Ray is one of the things that makes the ps3 an excelent console just because the Blu-Ray has a big space, but the truth is that we can have better performance with 3 DVDs. We will not find installations in some games like Uncharted, but no matter if Uncharted has better graphics than MGS4, without installation MGS4 would have problems.

Without a doubt we have good examples (Uncharted), but we also have bad examples. And if we have bad examples, the best thing that we can do is move forward and create another technology.

Yes please MS!!! First Day Buy !!!!!!

@ hisiru, yes, it does not mean that we need new technology, if developers worked hard enough, they could get it to work without too many problems, and how hard would it be to implement a much quicker drive
