Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings IGN Review

This is going to do 1 million easy, how bloody tragic is that.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Ouch. This wasn't unexpected, but still

It is a Wii game (mainly); of course the developer didn't put the effort. Geez, what have you been doing the last 2 years?

I think it has more to do with it having a PSP and PS2 incarnation as well, all being basically the same game :\  instead of optimizing it for the Wii or adding anything that is standard for Wii/current console games they just took what is standard for low budget portable titles and made three versions of it sadly :(

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

Btw, Nintendo Power gave this a 7.5

I am too lazy to make a scan though. Take my word for it.

thats about what i thought it would get.

the IGN review is the anticlimax as it seems....

4-5 review i've seen gave it between 7-8, i don't believe it's as bad

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Am I the only one who actually wants games that are purely motion-based? Isn't that what the Wii was specifically designed for?

I'm still going to try this.

No, I right with you there.   I love games like Red Steel and Godfather where motion is extensively used.  And reviews on Amazon from users for this are highly positive.  It's not perfect but it's fun and I havn't really seen anyone else complain about the motion controls being a problem from users or reviewers.   Most people love it - this reviewer is out of touch with the Wii base.

The game is linear, light on story, short, not graphically wowing, and the puzzles are butt easy on that everyone agrees but it's fun and worth getting according to everything else I've seen.

I'm definately getting this but not this month (Tiger Woods and Conduit got my $$) and not next (WSR, RE Archives or Virtua) but maybe in a slow month after a price drop.

Aww hell. I thought we could have at least one thread about a Wii review without someone claiming that it's the reviewer's fault that a Wii game isn't good. The main point of the Wiimote is to enhance realism within the bounds of being fun. I may be playing an Indiana Jones game, but I know that I'm not Indiana Jones. Going by the review, it seems like there's a lot of parts where the motion control is used unnecessarily and detracts from the experience.

How do you figure that most people love it? I hope you're not quoting the 9 Amazon reviews for the game, especially when 4 people gave the game 3 stars or below. Reviewers don't have this huge problem with motion controls or reviewing Wii games that most fanboys try to say they do. Look at Super Mario galaxy. Amazing game, great use of motion controls, one of the highest reviewed games of all time.

And this people is why they didn't finish the game on the 360 and PS3. Because PS360 owners would never buy a game this bad. Even for Indiana Jones. However new gamers who don't read review sites will buy it. At least informed Wii owners will consider this more closely on there next purchase.

Well it seems like the main reason the game was "bad" was becouse of bad motion controls. So i'm not sure why that would have been a problem for HD gamers. Sure it wouldn't have been stunning, surprise surprise most game arn't on Wii or HD, but the controls clearly took this from a 7-8 down to a 5. It sounds like the PS2 version is actually quite fun.

XBL: WiiVault Wii: PM me  PSN: WiiVault

PC: AMD Athlon II Quadcore 635 (OC to 4.0ghz) , ATI Radeon 5770 1GB (x2)

MacBook Pro C2D 2.8ghz, 9600m GT 512 iMac: C2D 2.0, X2600XT 256

I'm currently playing through the main adventure for my next review and so far I find a 5 to be a bit low. Motion controls could have definitely been implemented better but like others have said, I wouldn't go so far as to say to take them out entirely. Godfather: Blackhand Edition proves you can make a game like this work with the right amount of effort and polish. The combat in general in Staff of Kings could use some polish though, as half of the time you find yourself running around like an idiot avoiding for or five guys looking for objects to throw or shove onto enemies in an awkward, almost fixed camera position.

So far, I am happy to report that the game does in fact somewhat fact you feel like you're in your own Indy adventure and even though Harrison Ford doesn't reprise his role, the voice actor who took his place is spot on. The game doesn't seem too long though, but you can unlock the ability to play as Han Solo! :P Co-op and multiplayer is untouched by me so far, so I have no comment on those modes.

Is Fate of Atlantis any good on the Wii? If so, then one waits for the price to drop, and picks it up just for that.

Pretty much what I plan on doing.

This is one of the harsher reviews the game has got. I've seen others in the seven range.

Exactly what I will do as well. I saw Staff of Kings in a store today (for 60€, ouch! The PS2 version costs 30€) and I would have bought it just for Fate of Atlantis, but not at this price point. I'm not interested in Staff of Kings at all, but I always wanted to play a classic LucasArts adventure on my Wii without having to hack the console to use ScummVM.

For the record for those who don't know: Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is not a typical mediocre movie franchise game, it's easily one of the best p&c adventure games ever made with a new story written for the game (that's why its informal title among fans is Indy 4).

I will wait for a price drop.
