I'm always down for some hype, but I'm torn as to whether or not I should actually pick this game up when it's finally released.

On one hand it looks absolutely stunning and you know it's gonna give the term "epic" a whole new meaning.

But on the other hand, I loathe traditional RPG gameplay, especially in light of the rise of the "action RPG" genre with games such as Mass Effect, Fable and Fallout 3 (my GOTY 2008).

Open-world, non-linear and non turn-based gameplay FTW every time!

FFXIII is hardly traditional.  I'd take a true turn-based FFX or DQVIII style battle system over any of the stuff that we're seeing now, but I'll settle for active turn-based if I have to.

It's all about the game.

@Ps3beats360

there's no more room in the PS3 owners cart

so either you'll have to sit with 360 owners, or you can be above the wheels on the Ps3 cart?

I wouldn't mind somehow getting squished onto the PS3 cart.  I'd rather walk beside the train than sit with those 360 guys :P

@nightdragomn

FF13 isn't turn based

its gonna have a revolutionary battle system

Hope so... I'll definitely check out the demo whenever it makes its way over to the US.

To be honest I haven't played any of the newer (PS2 era) FFs so I can't really judge or compare their gameplay/battle systems to the next game in the series, and as much as I love some of the older games from the SNES/PS1 era, I just can't stand the combination of random encounters and turn-based combat, with the exception of Mario RPG and the Paper Mario games, because their was also action and platform elements to them as well.

I just feel that if I'm going to sink 60-80 hours or more into a game, I'd rather those hours be well spent actually playing and enjoying the game and not because I have to constantly level-grind to progress or anything like that.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Can I ride along with you guys? I seriously want this game, but first I must finish the ones I am currently playing, FFX and FFVIII this summer, then I'll move on to FFVII and FFIV

^_^

I'll just leave this here.

And yes I do know the irony of myself having a final fantasy avatar yet still being more hyped towards mass effect.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

Huh even though FFXIII is multiplat....The majority of people hyping it are PS3 fans

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Because the Final Fantasy user base mostly consist of Playstation fans.

The last 5 main games was on a PS console. (excluding FFXI)
