I've never played one.

I've got a GBA SP, GCN, Wii, PS2, and DS Lite.

 Which one would you reccomend?

(please don't say any of the PS1 titles, too dated)

Top 3 favorite games: Super Mario Galaxy, The Sims 2 (PC), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

All I've ever played Are FF4 and FF6 emulated on PC and FF7-FF9 on PS.

I would recommend FF1&2, FF4, FF5 and FF6 for the GBA and FF3 for the DS.

FFX

Best choice.

FFX is okay but unless you get the international version (not released state side) you're missing out on the whole game. Either way, you're better off sticking to Final Fantasies with numbers beneath 10.

None. I've heard good things about FF9. Though that might get your hopes up.

The last ok Final Fantasy game i've personally played was Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Which was... ok.

Other then that the other good Final Fantasy games are all on the Snes(3), NES(3) and PS1 in my opinion.

Of course they did remake FF4-6 on the PS2... i think... (or was it PS1. I own them yet honestly i don't remember) along with Chrono Trigger. However since they didn't update anything and they are SNES games originally i doubt that counts.

I myself have never played any FF games.

I played IV around halfway before getting bored, beat VII almost ten years ago when it was new, played X until just before the final boss and quit when the game pretty much told me to go and grind for 2 hours more, and played X-2 for around twenty minutes when blood started pouring out of my eyes and ears.

Currently playing XII on my brand new PS2 that I just bought. I'm cautiously optimistic about getting pretty far with it, although my friend's save file saying he spent over 100 hours on it is a bit daunting. =P

I recommend you try the series to see if you like it, but don't keep torturing yourself if they just aren't your thing.

Then why do you care so much about FFXIII?

FF4 is my personal favorite though I'm happy to say thats probably a 7 year old child's nostalgia speaking if you choose to get that one I'd just wait for the DS remake that will have more of the script that was left out due to SNES cartridge sizes back then and hopefully have a cleaned up translation and any remaining bugs in the game fixed. FF6 probably has the best story 14 characters that for the most part all have well developed stories and character development versus the most evil villain of the series in the fact that hes just evil for the sake of being evil no mysterious past or super powers that made him go crazy. This one is also supposed to have a DS remake eventually but that probably won't be till next year at the earliest I'd imagine. If you have to play it now I'd say go GBA but definitely not PS1 port I played the Chrono Trigger port on the PS1 the load times are horrendous for those ports. Menu opening on the SNES/GBA versions = instant the PS1 version is a 5-6 second wait which will add up really fast over the entire game after you've opened the main menu 100 times. FF10 I liked well enough it had an interesting combat system because different attacks take longer to execute so depending on your actions you can manipulate a turn list that you see during battle. Eventually the game devolves though into you just spamming quick attack over and over till your enemy is dead and if you get even a single of the characters ultimate weapons you will essentially 1 round the last boss so its not much of an ending if you do it that way. The main character is pretty whiny but the world its based in was otherwise nice I enjoyed it overall it does depart from all other Final Fantasies though in that there is no exploration of the world map its totally linear till you hit the airship then you just choose locations from the list. So it is missing a pretty key component to 1-9 of the series but for a newcomer to it you'd never know otherwise anyways.
