Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Project Natal On Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

So not only is Microsoft coming up with a stupid name, but they're advertising for it on late night talk shows?

This is all too familiar... I wonder if they'll get Ellen, Conan, and Colbert, and be used live at the Oscars, and then end up on cruise ships and in retirement homes and rehabilitation clinics. I'll keep my eye on this Natal.

The Breakout game looks fun, and looks much better than it did during the E3 conference. It was good to see 4 different people try it with different styles, rather than the girl just jumping around like crazy. I wonder why the player's body is segmented though, and why the balls have to be soooooo big. I remember Breakout/Arkanoid/Super Glove Ball all having little tiny balls that are really hard to hit. Are they making Breakout even more casual? It's a Flash game. I also loved how he said "It's like a 3-D Breakout," as if anybody other than gaming history nerds like us even know what Breakout is.

Sony defense force is working hard tonight. If you followed ANY MS info, you should know that "Natal" is a codename like the Nintendo Revolution.

Working really well for being just announced, the technology still has few quirks but who cares this is amazing 3d movement all tracked inside the area of play thats awesome.

Haha.. nice. Time will tell how good its going to be.

Im just wondering why everyone playing is wearing those red overalls.. anybody know?

I was wondering that too.  Maybe it tricks the camera into thinking they're all the same person, so that the player-swapping can work?

No I think it's teh camera working quickly....if you can see the GMA one I put up it changes from female to malein less than 15 sec...you can also hear Matt Lauer ass-kissing himself while it goes on.

Since it's only a tech demo, I'll cut it some slack. I'm not into the whole motion sensing hoopla at all, but I think MS is doing a great job marketing Natal already by getting it on these shows.

That said, I wasn't really impressed at E3, and I'm not now. Call me old fashioned, but i like a controller in my hands.

As a Nintendo fanboy, I have to say... Natal looks promising.

All of these new techs are exciting, bringing us closer and closer to the Holodeck. Sure there will be missteps in the early stages, but that's how progress tends to go.

It was pretty bad when playing burnout.

Again, another ps3 user. Do you even own a 360?

I'll let this mistake slide since you're a new member with only 124 posts, but I am definitely not in the Sony Defense Force!  In fact, here's a 2007 interview at GameDaily proving that I'm in the Nintendo Defense Force: http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/console-defense-forces/?biz=&page=2

I gotta remember to put that back in my sig.

Anyway, I don't think it can be argued that Nintendo changed the way game companies advertise new tech and try to court casual markets.  That's all I was getting at.  I am very intrigued by all the new camera motion technologies coming out.  Luckily the first one will be on the Wii this Christmas so i can try it out in a few months.  And I'm gonna try to talk my 360-owning friends into buying Natal so I can try it at their house.

I actually think it looks pretty bad. I own an Xbox 360, I like my Xbox 360, but I prefer my Wii for stuff like this. The tactile feeling of holding a controller is preferable, at least for me. I also agree that there seems to be an unfortunate level of disagreement between the player and the onscreen avatar. I don't know why they missed the ball a bunch of times, it looked as though they should have hit it, and the driving seemed confusing and imprecise. I really don't think this is the future of gaming, but hey, they've got a while to convince me.

My Games of 2011:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Super Mario 3D Land

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Jimmy Fallon was pretty excited!

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."
