You've got to love social utopianism. It works perfectly every time it's been tried...

Oh wait.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Maybe after seeing Velvet Assassin or some of the violent WW2 games, they're getting worried that Germans might actually know what happened between '39-'45 .

Velvet Assassin is made by a German developer located in Hamburg, Germany. What you are saying doesn't even make sense.

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

Currently playing: Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Wii), Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS), Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS), WiiFit(Wii)

Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)

1 word: RTFA

To add on, fuck you coolbeans, the Germans are one of the most repentant countries out of all the 3 Axis powers, made Holocaust denial ILLEGAL. I can't say for their education system, as I wasn't raised there, but I'm sure they don't just skip/skim that part of history.

Farcry 2 is a terrible game.

Copycat =/

I'll go crazy myself if I forced myself to finish the game.

Well I got two words for them. "Good Luck"

It will never happen.

Gears of War 1-2 can be bought in fact they havent banned a single game yet. Except Manhunt and such games. Its not that easy they have to change the laws. They first have to bring it through the federal court. Its not that easy but with such things they hope to get some votes of the conservative part of the Country. They even have to align this bill with the European rights. Because it would hurt the free movement of goods in Europe. So you could buy it without a problem in the UK/France/Spain/Italy via Internet (most of the Games are localized for all of Europe in Spain, French, English, German, Italian. The PS3 e.g has no country codes. Its almost impossible to apply such a law. They would destroy a part of the economy through this. The Import of Games would rise ( I havent bought a single game in Germany all my gaes are from the UK or Austria) And as soon as OUR Generation has the Power the law should be removed anyway.

On the Other Hand standard FSP/TPS are not the most popular games in Germany.

They even want to forbid Paintball. All that because of the second massacre.

PS: The German people know exactly everything what happened in WW1 and 2. I was 3 times in Concentration Camps. I saw a giant amount of jewish hair with the age of 10. I saw the Gas Showers. They discuss what happened, every single day in TV. Its almost impossible to zap between the channels without seeing a documentation about WW2. If you think that the germans dont know about their history you know nothing. If here is a demo of the Right Winged or NeoNazis you can bet on it that there is at the same time a 10time bigger demonstration against them. They have learned their lesson: Dont mess with the World.

Edit: It seems Gears wasnt released here. I even havent known this yet. Hmm maybe they have not released a lot of games but if so I cant feel a difference between forbidden games or not.

Don't you worry... our eduaction system really shows us time and time again what shit we've done ^^ But sometimes it feels a little bit behind the carpet because many of the things that belongs to this "past" are censored and something that "should not talked about"

OT: This is really really old... I mean we have this point every two months at least. Once someone killed some people and they blamed Final Fantasy 7 but hey... We have some weird political stuff going on as many other countries. I have to admit that I really don't feel home here because a lot of the stuff I enjoy like movies and games are censored or banned. I hate to be treated like a kid but I agree that there have to be a better prevention. Unfortunatelly I can't agree with this way. Because in some way you really have to feel bad if you play shooters or hear heavy metal because you're a possible Killer. They can never ban it forever but they take their steps and we mentally mature enough people have to find other ways.

It could be worse though. I'm not happy and I'm really pissed often but I keep on telling that democracy doesn't work in the way it's currently used, import my stuff and good... there's nothing you can do... And yea, according to some of those old politicians that just need a scapegoat for everything they can't handle I will rest in hell anyway.

Sorry, but you really have to get used to it... There will allways be more than enough target for them so that noone will ever blame them when they should. Unfortunatelly you can't do anything that deal with it and find your ways or emigrate... But as I already said... it could be worse... I can still import for now (!) Dealing with real backgrounds is way harder than just finding a patsy.

Yeah we ( The Germans) still suffer from WWII. You can't be patriotic in Germany. It is impossible. I was born 40 years after the WW II ended, so I can fairly say that I have nothing to do with it. Same for my parents and even my grandparents (my grandfather was 7 years old when the war started) but still, we have to deal with it.

I really think Germany did well after the second worldwar (with the help of others of course). Germany was totally destroyed after '45. But the country was re-built and look at it now. Germany has a so unique history from the evil in mankind to a re-united country and a open minded society with lots of immigrants. And as a German who experienced all this, I think you have all reason to be proud. But as soon as you say: "Hey, I think Germany is a pretty cool country to live in" you will hear the response: "Never forget Worldwar II!" We did not forget WWII and we won't forget it, but it is nothing bad to be proud of what you achieved in the past 60 years.

And yeah, Gears was never released here, but it was imported from austria (same language) so sales in Austria must have been insane.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
