Forums - Microsoft Discussion - NATAL is racist - Cannot pick up dark skin

Like Stephen Colbert, Natal simply doesn't see colour.

wait wait though, this doesn't sound right, didn't they show off celebrities using Natal, and a number of them were black. They appeared to have no issue.

Yeah...I'm calling bullshit on this. Unless they put a deep-African man in a black suit next to a black background in an underground bunker at night with all the lights off, this is probably fake.

wow at the overreaction, calm yourselves boys. Natal isn't going anywhere.

You have to admit it's pretty funny though. And let's say in the worst case, this can't be fixed... I don't think they would launch it. That would just be asking for trouble.

Imagine the advertisment:

"Jump in! Social experiences for the whole family *

* unless you are black"

maybe its ''unless you are fat'' which would be funnier

My point is, this is 0% confirmed and the fanboys are already having a field day, see post below.

It's hardly fanboy talk as much as it is reality. If it isn't fixed, Microsoft will see a shitstorm unlike few before it, if they release Natal like that

I doubt they wont find a fix for it though

stop embaressing yourself and look at the vid above

No, what should happen is that I should start pressing 'Post' before my reply has been sitting on stand-by for too long, so there isn't a 20 post gap between it and the post I responded to.

An advertisement trumps a report from a hands-on? What kind of logic is that?

Hopeful, and factual. An advertisement using celebrities playing the game doesn't make it any less legitimate, as long as they were actually playing it.

Oh noes! N'Gai has been an elaborate made up person for the last 5+ years so that fanboys can hate on Natal!

I'll eat my words if this somehow is fake but I thought it was funny :P

Now the worms start crawling out of the sink...

I hate when that happens. I dont mind when they crawl out of raw steak, but really now, I try to keep the sink clean.

@OP - I would never have thought that'd be an issue

-facepalm-

Pixel Art can be fun.

That sounds like more than a bit of a rally killer.

I'm not even saying the advertisement was rigged. The study in the OP says:

"The NIRS device failed to register tissue saturation values at some point in nine of seventeen volunteers. This occurred more often in individuals with darker skin."

"melanin clearly interferes with the quality of the reflected NIRS signal."

As you might imagine, different people may have different concentrations of melanin. This could easily turn out to be a non-issue, but you can't discount it by simply pointing at some demo videos.
