Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I'm thinking of buying a wii..but is it worth it?

I love my wii a lot and I can tell you to buy it. But I won't. Simply because choosing a console is a very personal issue and the only person that can answer that is yourself.

You say you never played mario or zelda or any other Nintendo series. well that may be the answer you may asking. You can try these games and see if they catch your eye or not. and don't believe the HD fanboys, the 3d party offering in the wii is pretty solid and broads almost all the genres. also if you are a grfx>>>>>>>gameplay gamer, that can be an issue to check too.

Thank you very much for answers guys
But I have one more question
Have you guys tried games like 'dance dan revolution'
I mean like karaoke...dancing...party games
are they more fun than their sisters and brothers on other consoles?

And about the genres I like
I don't really like fps games
I love sandbox games...rpgs...and some good hack'n slash games
platformers are also one of the genres I love :)

seems your tastes are very close to mine : P

also like those genres, haven't trie dance revolution, but it should be better on Wii like most games of the genre

games like Mario Party and Rayman Raving Rabbits are crazy fun, especially if you have some friends or brother/sister to play with

a good RPG is Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, i find it much better than what the reviews say

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

There are tons of games that wii has even those that most people never
heard ot. If I put down a list it'll be too big.

But you need to go buy pikmin though

(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

They do use arm motions (optionally) on DDR games on Wii.  Otherwise it's the same.   Same for Karaoke and other similar genre except you tend to find a lot more of them on Wii since that is the crowd that Wii attracts and cost-wise is much easier for developers to make these games for Wii than to stick them on a HD system where HD is adding nothing at all but development cost.    Having said that 360 has a decent variety.

For party games and platformers Wii has a far better selection, especially better than PS3's offering.

RPG's and hack n' Slash you'd be better off with a HD system although Wii does have some.   Motion adds nothing to these types of games but HD does so they tend to go HD consoles.  However Monster Hunter 3 is coming to Wii as well as a lot of good JRPGs.

i think Wii have hack'n'slash but Wii are lacking RPG's, but 2009-2010 is here to change this!

I wouldn't buy it unless you were 100% sure you wanted it. If you're not interested, or just a little, wait until you find yourself wanting it.

Check out my game about moles ^

Buying a console for the sake of buying a console is a bad idea.

Find a Wii games that interest you. Make a list. Figure out what games you would buy if you have a Wii. Consider those and decide whether or not it's worth buying the console.

The Wii has a large price tag as it is a console. You could buy 4~5 full priced games, dozens of used games (for any system), a DS/PSP and several portable games, etc. There is a lot of stuff you can do with the Wii's pricetag.

Figure out what you can do with your money that will give you the most fun and do that. If it's buying a Wii then that's great, but if it's not then pass on it.

Thanks for the question. I have never been much of a traditional "Nintendo games" gamer. I hate Pokemon, could care less about kerby, have never been than interested in zelda, can't stand Smash Bros. and only been a casual fan of Mario (xept Galaxy), Metroid (until 3), and Star Fox. In fact as I look at my gaming wall it is actually pretty funny how few Ninty games I own.

After all that I can say I love my Wii. Games like Boom Blox, No More Heroes, and Mario Galaxy set the Wii apart. The Wii also offers some great casual fun. While many Wii owners on the site (rightfully) look down on most "casual games" there are exceptions. The EA sports games, Shaun White, and the Rayman Raving Rabbids series come to mind.

The only serious let down for me has been the lack of FPSs, and even further lack of GOOD FPSs. This has been especially frustrating because the controls, when done right are great. If you are pretty much an FPS player a Wii may make a better second console. Other than that I think it has most genres mostly covered.

Platformers, eh? Good news then! There's 2 upcoming platformer Mario games coming out, one of them (New Super Mario Bros Wii) is coming out soon this year and another (Super Mario Galaxy 2) next year. Super Mario Galaxy 1, which got released in 2007, is a great platformer, definitely try that out. Also, I heard that Klonoa game (which is a remake of the first game from the PS1) is great.

Hack n' slash games...No More Heroes and MadWorld are good choices! I suggest those! As for RPGs, there's some good ones coming out. The one that got my attention most is Dragon Quest X...but no info of it has been released, just the fact it's coming to the Wii.
