I just find it funny how critics this generation are picking at JRPGs because they aren't "changeing" but I have yet to come acrost 1 FPS that does anything to redefine the genre but yet they get 95+ scores. B.S.

well, I watched nearly all the cutscenes and I felt the same about the story and the dungeons .. it's like they just copy/paste-d in every clichè they could find

I feel the same way though I still might play it for the battle system and the other gameplay mechanics.

I think JRPGs are suffering critically more from bad voice acting and poor design than by not changing.

There was only 1 bad voice actor in the game, and the design was perfectly fine. I don't see what the problem is.

I'm playing through the game at the moment and there is more than 1 bad voice actor and I'm not even that far in.  The cutscenes are often slow and often boring, the music is unimaginative and at times non existant when it could enhance scenes.  So far the presentation is bad and I'm only carrying on to give the cliched story a chance to win me over (also the battle system isn't bad).  Seriously if you cannot see why someone could rate this game a 6 then you must play some crap games for reference.  The first hour or so of the game I felt like I was playing a game from the mid nineties, I kid not, everything is decadent from music, sound effects and indeed character design.

Perhaps you should have checked out Bioshock which was quite innovative, although then again you probably refuse to play a FPS game for more than an hour to judge them properly.

Actually I played the Bioshock and didn't like it. But by no means would I rate it a 5.9. That score is just ridicoulous.

Also I love Killzone 2 and Halo 3. So don't start assumeing stuff until you know the facts. Jr.

Anyways, I apologize for calling the guy an idiot. That was a my bad, but I STRONGLY disagree with the score.

JRPG's have been harshly judged this generation but I think I agree with some of the lower than expected scores, especially The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery. However Lost Odyssey was definitely much better than the scores it received (despite the scores being mostly 8+, there were much lower scores like 6's for not innovating). I may give SO4 a rent and will definitely get ToV when it comes out over here.

See, I love RPGs Zezlar, but I think you would have to be delusional to think this mess deserves a 9.

It's buggy, rushed, and cliched. There isn't anything special about it at all outside of the great battle system.

Isn't that what you did when you called some guy you don't know an idiot.  I think my response was justified given your aggressive and unecessary harsh post earlier in the thread.  It would seem you think that a paint by numbers FPS just like a paint by numbers JPRG should be great, makes sense why a lack of innovation isn't taken into consideration when you judge games.  Not every game can be innovative of course but if they aren't then they must be very well polished, Star Ocean isn't to a lot of people hence the lower than you expect scores.

A computer gaming website does not JRPGs? What a shock!
