Forums - Sony Discussion - How do you pronounce Ico?

bardicverse said:

Wikipedia is useless.
Ive never, ever heard anyone pronounce it ee-ko. Even when other industry people discuss the game, its Eye-Ko. If you think about it, it has the same structure as the word Icon. Take the en sound away for the lack of an N, and you have Ico - eye-ko.

However granted, that the I sound in Japanese is often pronounced with an Ih sound, it might actually be Ih-ko.

If you watched the 2009 E3 Sony Press Conference, they pronounced it as ee-ko when they were introducing the Last Guardian.

^^^ I read it in the LiveBlog, didnt listen to audio. Fair enough. I also pronounce Coffee - Caw-fee, Haunting - Hawn-ting, and Water - Wa-duh .. but hey, I grew up in Brookyn, NY - fuggheddaboudit

I'm with Soriku. I will not pronounce it ee-ko.

Just like I will pronounce Sasuke as Sa-su-kay rather than Sass-kay. Or Ty-dus rather than tee-dus.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I've always thought it was EE-ko since I heard about FFX Tidus is pronounced TEEdus.

learning that I was pronouncing the name of the character from my favorite game devastated me :\  (tide-us sounds a lot better than TEEdus)

ot:  ee-ko

lol I used to pronounce Sasuke as Sa-su-kay as well. But I don't anymore. I think it's because of the a lot of anime I watched where other characters have the "uke" in their name that makes them sound like that. I also realized it sounded better...

Tidus is really pronounced tee-dus? I thought it was Ty-dus. Tee-dus sounds terrible lol.

Well, we know this from Kingdom Hearts.

You know, "Let's go with Tidus to the secret place"

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Obviously Ee-ko because if you think about it in Japanese this pronouciation means several things depending on how you say it : Ikou (ikimasu) = "let's go", ikou = great deed, iiko (good kid), iko = orphan.
