Forums - Microsoft Discussion - IMO: A few reasons why Halo 3 might wind up with 15m+ units sold

Halo doesn't have the broad appeal that a game like mario, mario kart, or smash bros does. Over 10 million is just going too far. Perhaps if 360 sold 120 million consoles it would be possible. Seriously there is very diminishing returns on expanding userbases, that is why PS2 can't seem to barely use any of the userbase for a particular game. Most of the people that wanted Halo last gen got it, if 360 did expand it's user base beyond 30 million you would be tapping into a new crowd that mostly don't care that much about FPS. You would be tapping into RPG geeks, women, kids, older people etc.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

whats with all of the use of the word 'reckon'??? i didn't know we had so many hillbillies on gamechartz!!! yeeehaawww

15 million?

Inconceivable!

Well attach rates of a game that are that huge are normally at about 30%. Meaning that about 52 million 360's would need to be sold. This is really really pushing it. This would be saying that Europe and Japan are capable markets for the 360. And even further if they aren't that 360 will sell around 30-40 million America alone.

This prediction is just on the verge of impossibility. Hell 10 million was pushing it. With the lack of success in the game outside of America and the lack of success of the 360 to sell that many units to even put this into the realm of possibility makes this almost unachievable.

From all I'm reading about it here on the forums, it doesn't sound like Halo3 is the kind of game to really do that well over the length of its life.

Why not look at the charts? Halo 2 has been in the charts since it came out...

i came home from school on tuesday and noticed i had 27 friends on xbox live. every single one was on halo 3, and the majority of them are rpg players, with a couple rainbow six and gears. this game is gonna be huge. id say a defininte break on 10 mil lifetime

Don't remember who said it but I was thinking it when I read their post.

I think you are caught up in the Hype right now and are blowing things up to be a bit bigger than they are. I agree it should be able to hit 10-11m but I actually think 12m is about the best it can hope for given the expectations for the consoles sales and relative comparisons to other games on consoles that sold many more units than the 360 is expected to.

Give it a month and see how you feel, if you still have this crazy thought...well then your just crazy officially =)

To Each Man, Responsibility

I can see it happening.

Then again, I see Super Mario Galaxy selling 18M for just about the same reasons.

What I don't see is Killzone 2 selling 4M+ by the end of 2008, which, if I remember correctly, is leo-j's prediction.

There are a lot of xbox 360 and halo 3 haters on this site.  There must be a lot of nintendo fanboys here.  While I am not sure Halo 3 will sell that much I hope it does.  Halo has always had a good campaign but that is not what made the game fun.  What made halo fun was that you were playing with your friends and enemies.  You could trash talk and taunt those people that thought they were so great cause they were good at it.  While the wii sells a lot of hardware it does not seem to have any good games on it.  When you play halo its like your hunting and fighting a real person.  When you play Super smash bros your fighting some stupid cartoon like pikachu or kurby.  The only reason i think wii has done so well is its price.  Other than wii sports there is no reason to buy a wii.  The wii lacks real depth in its video game library.  I would rather play ping pong than play on a wii.  I find ping pong more fun.

Love is whats most important.
