Forums - Gaming Discussion - How Will HD Motion Control Affect Developers?

I've been wondering about this, and want to see if anyone here has any input?

I can't help but feel that this is gonna pull developers in about eighteen different directions.  Now, you can't just either develop a game for HD/PC or Wii, you have to decide if you're gonna use a motion control, and if so, which one?  (I suspect Natal is different enough from Wii/PS3 motion controls to need a significantly different game design).  Will this kill the recent trend towards everything being multiplatform?  Will it cause a bigger split between the games available on computer vs. on consoles vs. on handhelds?

Also, if you're a developer working on HD consoles, do you basically double the games you're working on for them, so you can have motion control and non-motion control projects?  Or do you just choose to stick to one or the other?

Will these publishers still be shy about trying to make core games work with motion control?  Will we see an influx of "casual," motion control games to the HD market, since that's kind of a proven commodity? Will older Wii titles be ported?  Or will it be too costly/inconvenient to try to upscale the graphics on those games?

Since all of these developers are gonna be immersed in motion control like never before, are they gonna reach the point where they feel more competent to release more/better Wii games as well?  Or are we still gonna see a big split between the developers who prefer HD over the Wii?

Finally, who will these motion controls benefit in the long run?  Will they help the HD consoles fight off the Wii?  Or, in possibly hurting the potential for future multiplatform releases, have they inadvertently done damage to themselves?

What do you think?

Around the Network

According to Nintendo, developers have been crying out for M+ since they began developing Wii games.

Developers wanted M+, I doubt they want Natal/SoMo.
