that sounds stupid. It totally breaks Zelda where mostly traditional weapons are used with some fairy magic on top. It also would essentially make Zelda a 1 button game and unless you can totally disable it would be a major downside to the game.

Bow, Boomrang, Hammer... I think this time you'll notice some Zack & Wiki gameplay and this theory isn't so far from gamers expectations but there so many things Nintendo can do and they know how to do it right " IN NINTENDO WII TRUST " ^_^.

I came to the same conclusion as you. They are expanding on what midna was in TP (a transformable helper). I am gonna say that each dungeon has a new power is unlocked for her or whatever... I also expect there to be some tradition items too. So there will still be switching. She will just be the weapon, imo.

To me the girl looks a lot like Master Sword itself. Notice her pointy head and the overall shape of her body, or the gem in her chest.

I had the same idea when I saw the picture for the first time and so a couple others. I like this theory.

TP took a "different" path regarding story (and story progression), looks like it's (finally) time for a different gameplay progression, but I really don't think it will be like OP's theory, the character would have a different form, as it's right now it's obviously the Master Sword.

Didn't IGN tell us to bet on Kid Icarus for Wii at E3 2008?

While the prediction may be accurate, I would not bet on anything from that (or any other source, including Nintendo) until it is officially revealed.

I like this theory.

this is a very good point that I just pointed out in another thread. IGN likes to get attention to their website by spouting rumors as facts and telling you to believe them since they have "credible inside sources". This is about the same as when a forum member tells you they know something will happen because of credible inside sources but no one believes the forum poster.

Granted, they have been correct on their statements before, but a lot of times they talk way too soon and the developer changes their mind before showing anything off.
