this will be the killer app for the PS3 to revive the playstation leadership.. picture a battered Phil Harrison of Sony, in a difficult situtation.. Sony have been in the bad corner for some months.. and he has to deliver... he brings a almost unknown development company, with a new game... damn do i love that game.. i was watching the GDC and i wanted to switch off the clip when Sony was introducing yet another new game.. they were the best ever seen.. no Sony arrogance, just plain game pleasure, hi tech, hi touch, just as Sony should love it.. Phil seems to be the one who understands the business please react..am I the only one who sees a change in Sony behavior?

There certainly has been a significant change in Sony's behavior, at least at GDC. LittleBigPlanet looks amazing...but we won't know how much of a system seller it will be yet. And btw, Phil Harrison is not the only man working at Sony.

Home and LBP wasn't just created in a few months in a corner somewhere. Sony knew what they had and it was news articles and spin that turns hyperbole into evil corporate lies. This change in behavior seems to stem from a different way certain venues are reporting it as well. From my side it is clear as day and the zealots reactions are quite humorous.

Little Big Planet looks amazing. But will it be a killer app for Sony? I'm not sure. I say that because this game sort of defies the Sony demographic. People bought their ps3 and X360 to get games like Resistance, FF, metal Gear, Gundam, Halo, GT, Forza 2, Mass Effect.... This game looks like a fun family friendly kind of concept, and i clearly recall Microsoft attmepting a family fun concept that being Viva Pinata, and it failing to sell well. This game in my opinion fits more comfortably on a Nintendo console , as it seems to fit Nintendo's demographic best. Like Viva Pinata this title runs the risk of being so alone in it's genre that it one by itself shift the userbase. And in case you need another example check out Loco Roco, a brilliant innovative side scroller, that would have been better served on the DS as people already bought a DS for side-scrolling games, but instead it only sold 156,000 units on the psp in japan.(btw I know these games were developed by sony, so I'm saying the publisher was stupid not to release on Nintendo's platform, just saying they would have sold better on one)



Does Little Big Planet have a one player mode? I saw on the trailers all about cooperating and stuff. What happens when one player decides to call it quits and just stops playing? Can the other three continue?

I could be wrong, but Home and Little Big Planet seem to be products that are designed to (mostly) apeal to casual and non-gamers who would be interested in social gaming experiences ... Now, if these were products on the PS2 or Nintendo DS I could see them being very successful in this market because spending $200 and getting system with a game seems reasonable to a lot of non-gamers ... The PS3 is currently priced as an enthusiast machine and is unlikely going to come down to a mainstream price before either of these products launch; the result is that Little Big Planet is going to have less than impressive sales and will probably not move that many systems. I guess you could think about it this way … Would Brain Training and Nintendogs have been as popular on a $250 system as they were on a $150 system? Probably not, that girl who bought here DS with Nintendogs and later picked up Animal Crossing would have probably seen Nintendogs and thought “That’s cool”, checked out the price of the systems and spent her money on something else.



Playstation has always started its growth on hardcore gamers with games as Gran Turismo ,Ridge Racer ,Tekken ,Devil May Cry etc . It isnt until later in the game when the price has dropped enough that they start adding the casual market and expand its demographics with games as Singstar ,Buzz ,Dance Dance Revolution ,Eye Toy ,Guitar Hero and things like that . Home and Little Big Planet look both gorgeous and will be appreciated by that kind of casual gamers without displeasing too much the hardcore gamers (specially Home ) . It seems Sony this time will play the casual card first . I dont know if Little Big Planet will sell a lot of consoles .Sort of doubt it .But once the word of mouth of Home spreads that app will sell lot of consoles .And one more thing many of you dont see coming ......Singstar next gen with its downloadable music ,worlwide charts ,shared videos and the possibility to rate the other user videos uploaded ....THAT will seriously sell loads of consoles at least in Europa and probably in the Karaoke-friendly Asia .



I'm not sure I'm ready to call LittleBigPlanet this generations GTA3. However it does show Sony's effort to attract the casual gamer, something Microsoft has not seemed willing to do. It's probably true the PS3 won't be a casual gamer friendly system for a while, but I wondar if the 360 will ever get there. At least Sony is trying with things like Home and LittleBigPlanet. In a few years if the price gap between the two systems is just $100, and people understand the value of Blue Ray, the casual gamers will buy the PS3 unless the 360 gets games that appeal to them. Viva Pinata is not going to cut it.



Am I the only one that thinks Home appeals mostly to hardcore gamers? The whole trophy system is obviously designed for people playing alot of games and winning them. Someone always on and chatting rearranging furniture in your virtual home, and getting your avatar just right sounds like alot of involved and somewhat complex features, I think it sounds to complicated for casual players. Casual players want simple fun games they pop in and play. I think Home looks a bit daunting to them. And just to clarify I like Home alot, I'm excited to try it when I eventually get a ps3, and I feel it appeals to me becuase I am a hardcore gamer.

I think viva was not as popular because of its style, it was more because of what type of game it was. It was not enjoyable. It got my attention but became real boring real quick. Unless you have love for that genre I highly doubt many people enjoyed that game. Loco roco is needed on the PSP library. The psp needs more variety and actual "good games". And this probably comes down to appeal. Loco is a side scroller but it is not an action game it is a puzzle game.
