It's a heart rate monitor, the type your can get at a dollar store.
Even their casual games are going to need to develop depth as the market begins to become a "red ocean" with the PSEye wand, Natal and third party competition on their own console.
Ubisoft is making a Wii Camera game and Nintendo is releasing a heart rate monitor.

1 - You ignored my original explanation of use - Sure, you can get a HRM frm the store, but can you get one that interactis with Wii Fit Plus, and in turn reports how many calories you've burned off in the 30 minute exercise session you just had? That's a simple interactivity.
2 - The market hasn't become a "Red ocean", and wont for a while. Natal is in its infancy and left more people confused than anything else. This was a MS damage control announcement. The PS3 wand was even less credible, hell the guys even got laughed at for failing to get the device started. These products won't show up till mid next year at soonest, if the projects continue on at all. The PS3 control will have to dramatically change shape yet, as the overall device structure impedes on the Wii Remote patent. There's at least a good year or 2 before this device is fully functional.
3 - Ubisoft worked with Nitnendo directly for the camera. The interesting thing is, since its not officially out yet, they can go back and enhance their camera to work within a more 3d space like Natal does.
