Forums - Sony Discussion - Why FF14 is the BIGGEST announcement of E3........

@GooseGaws

obviously, but people seem to be assuming that as FF11 was a flop on Ps2, FF14 will eba flop on PS3

when PS3 is a console that PUSHES online as one of its main things, PS2 never pushed online, if you had online on PS2......you were a tech genius.

So the market for FF14 is automatically much larger on the PS3 than it ever was for FF11 on the PS2

Personally i find the whole exclusive arguements that go on on this forum boreing. Who really cares if a game is exclusive or multiplat? when FF 13 was announced to be multiplat I saw it as no biggie. I can still play it on my PS3. The onlything big about this is it reaffirms the tie between FF and Sony. people equate certian franchises to certian console makers. for whatever reason FF and MGS are tied to Sony first and foremost. This announcement just reaffirms that once again. Exclusivity is meanigless. I say good for Sony and leave it at that, even tho i know on these forums few people ever like to say such nice things about Sony.

MMO kinda turned me down, I'm not into those, I was so thrilled when I heard the announcement but then I saw that it was an MMO, but for PS3 the biggest announcement might be Agent, if it turns out to be great like other RockStar games.

I seriously doubt that this will not end up on PC (hell might end up releasing on PC first).
Truthfully, some of the other MMOs coming to PS3 and 360 seem more interesting.

(bought FF XI day 1 (PC). at least I got a free month of play for my $$)

I say this again

PS3 has many more people online than PS2 did......MMO's have become even larger since FF11

FF11 xbox 360 sales were disappointing as it was a rehashed PS2 game

this will be a new MMO, hyped to hell released ina market that games online MUCH MUCH MORE....

please don't tell me PS2 had more people playing online games that PS3 does.....because it didn't

thats the main difference

The graph Mr. Stickball has is for pc users and he actually marked it wrong, maximum subscribers for ffxi only reached slightly above 500,000. Are you saying people didn't know how to go online with their pc's back then?

I don't think this is a big announcment because it's an mmo with a monthly subscription, a turn off for many people and because it is also being released on the pc hence negating it as a hardware pusher. It will probably do decently but defintely not a massive announcement.

I don't want to be rude but, did you read my post?

I said most people didn't know how to go online with PS2's

now PS3 is a ONLINE marketed console.....so the

PS3 ONLINE USERBASE is >>>>> PS2 ONLINE USERBASE

So FF14 already has an advantage thats why I think it was the biggest announcement

Here is a quick question.

When did they announce that there would be a Subscription? Answer: They didn't
I can almost guarantee you... if there is no subscription... this will turn out to be the hands down most massive announcement of E3 and this game will sell in truckloads upon truckloads and will be an undeniable hit.

If they want the game to be as big as you say they will HAVE to have a subscription to make a profit on the amount of money they will be spending on servers, patches, etc.

Just like Guild Wars, right? Oh wait...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

FFXI sold under 2m units globally, correct? Why is this in the same territory as the other announced exclusives from Nintendo and MS that are far larger?

Just look at what AkibaFan keeps saying and you'll understand...instead of trying to downplay a FINAL FANTASY game being exclusive to the PS3

BMaker -

My issue is that some are acting, like they usually do, that FFXIV = SMG2/H:R or other announcements for games that will hit 5 million+ units sold. I don't think XIV has that kind of power. Now, if XIV was a traditional game...I'd agree.

It's a good exclusive for Sony, but not the be-all-end-all. Probably about the same size as vsXIII exclusivity.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Anyone else noticed that SE kinda skimped out on MSFT this E3? True they DID show a demo...but it was a total of 1 min? But Sony got like a 3 minute trailer, FF dissidia, FFXIV, FFvs13.

Too bad VS wasn't there though. :(

Considering they basically shunned the PS3 this entire generation...and then their last ray of hope was at least releasing The Last Remnant on the system, only to turn around and cancel it...while they keep pumping out games for the 360 (even though they are trying to allegedly expand their market, they make no games for the PS3 which is way bigger in Japan than the 360 is, therefore they'd get way more sales there).....

I'd say it's about time, rather than "they skimped out on the PS3"
