I would say that Microsoft was FAR more ready to show off what they had been doing. The Milo demonstration was absolutely critical and it shows that on the software side they are really much further ahead of Sony in terms of making this work for you and I. They both have a lot of potential, but I think Microsoft has more of an opportunity to really create a few killer apps that both Sony and Nintendo cannot do and seal a niche of the market to themselves.

Hate to break it to you but Milo was confirmed to be a streaming hunk of unresponsive bullshit by ign... lol hate to break it to yah :P

Its better then WM+ but worse then what MS has, so who really cares. I see no use for them in normal gaming.

WM+ is already 100% accurate. So it is as accurate as it, or is worse. You can't be more accurate then 100%.

And I don't wanna see what happens if you cover the purple head of the device.

wm+ is not 100% go watch the videos where you can see them moving while the stuff is going on screen.

Wii Motion + is full 1:1 tracking.

Technically, Wii Motion + only tracks orientation (3 degrees of liberty). You can still call that 1:1 or not, depending on your definition.

A system with an external camera like the Sony wand thingie can track orientation and shifting at the same time (5 or 6 degrees of liberty, not sure about depth/Z axis).

According to this, it does orientation and position.

Both Microsoft and Sony motion controlled systems have potential right now. But that's all they are for now: "potential", until we see some actual games and not just heavily controlled tech demos. And creating the software is the hard part. I have no doubt that Microsoft and Sony can duplicate the Wii remote, but I'm extremely doubtful that they can create the next Wii Sports.

Also, the completely hypocritical reversals of many Microsoft and Sony fans' attitudes towards motion controls in the past 24 hours have been simply hilarious to watch.

Link?

The only article I can find on IGN that relates to Natal is very positive.

I think its too late in the life cycle for these types of things. PS3 will be almost 4 years old, the 360 almost 5 years old by the time they get around to releasing this stuff. Wii will be past 75 million in install base by then.

All this does is perhaps accelerate Nintendo to release a HD version of the Wii, which is probably good for everyone.

IMO I agree that it is a great concept... but now its just a concept... and for at least a few years will remain that way until the concept is realized properly. And ill try to find the damn link...

No, it doesn't. Gyroscopes can only provide you with orientation changes relative to a starting direction.

That video is about a specific piece of software from a third party developer that tries to infer the position of the wiimote from its orientation (and possibly from accelerations) by knowing the kinds of motions you're going to perform and from biometric data such as the angles and size of the human arm. The guy in the video says so himself, well not in these terms, but thats what he means.

If you were to slowly parallel transport the wiimote around (not changing its orientation at all), that software wouldn't be able to tell. It would also go completely wrong as soon as you twist your wrist around or in general you keep your arm articulations in a different stance from the one they calibrated the software for.

It's still only 3 degrees of freedom, there's no way around it.

Not only that but the eye is a camera afterall, has facial regonision and a microphone.. could scan yourself etc. I really really hope that sonys going to make some good stuff with this because i think it looked absolutely awesome.

It also seemed to work better than the on stage showing of microsofts camera.
