Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rate Microsofts Conference

Pros

  • Metal Gear Solid (Not a huge fan of the series but it's a great snag for 360 gamers everywhere)
  • Great showings on the previously known games (ODST, Conviction, Alan Wake)
  • New Games announced (Crackdown 2, Forza 3, L4D 2)
  • With Facebook, Twitter, and NATAL, 360 is finally putting serious effort to capture the non-gaming populace. A huge improvement over last year.

Cons

  • With Sixaxis and the WiiMote, Sony and Nintendo used both Demos and Actual "Traditional" games at their respective showings (Metroid Prime 2 at TGS 05 and WarHawk at E3 06). As for Microsoft, they still needs to prove that this can work wonders in the traditional setting (Painting elephants and Krazy Kickball* are alright, but let's see a "core" game being used.).
  • Where's Rare?

Overall a lot is going on the success for NATAL and the games that can come from it. Right now I'm giving the conference an 8.3/10 (I'm very specific!). Solid, but I want to see if all of this potential Microsoft announed today is more than just potential.

They could have devoted less time to Beatles Rock Band and had someone from Rare come out and announce a game.

I was also disappointed with Epic's announcement of a XBLA game even though the game looks pretty good.

sony fanboys spouting the eyetoy crap need to get a life. ms ALREADY has an "eyetoy" and has had for years.

What now? The Vision camera does not have any games that support motion tech. There are about a dozen EyeToy games.

I would give it a 6.5 out 10, as I am relatively uninterested in Natal. My score will stay regardless of wether or not the new metal gear is an exclusive or not; I think it's impressive that they got it. I really would have liked to see more on games like bioshock and mass effect.

(PSWii owner)  I am not pissed nor am I underwhelmed.  I think the potential is great.  I HOPE for the sake of all gaming that they make great stuff for it.

I give them a 8/10.

  • Alan Wake looks awesome.
  • Spliter Cell looks really good but it's still not my type of game.
  • FFXIII is awesome but not exclusive
  • I don't care about MGS
  • Natal makes me very optimistic about the future of the human race, that and the man-made sun
  • New video services, facebook etc.
  • Not my style of game too often
  • I think Halo is at risk of being over played.  The reason why the core Mario, Zelda, Forza, GT, GTA, etc keep going is because they only come out with a main game every so often.  While ODST looks slightly more innovative, the animation (or lack of) when you climb a ladder is telling of how the game plays.  Two hands on the rocket launcher and he can still climb. Amazing. plll.  But now I am nitpicking.  The visor is cool but other games have done it.  This isn't fair because I've never been a Halo fan and I like very few FPS.
  • Waggle reference.
  • Very little exclusive stuff for this year.

Most of the games aren't my style but I think the core-gaming press will give the conference a 9 or a 10 - which is perfectly fair the thing was packed full of announcements and gameplay.

MS did a great job and now I am really excited for E3 this year.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

About a 7. They showed some good games, but there were no huge surprises, and what they did show wasn't mindblowingly interesting. A decent show.

My Games of 2011:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Super Mario 3D Land

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Well, lets see here....

New 360 announcements:
Crackdown 2, Halo: Reach, Halo 3: ODST, Left 4 Dead 2, Forza 3, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Metal Gear Solid: Rising, XBLA games, Facebook and Twitter, 1080p Instant On, Last.FM music, Netflix advancements, Natal, Live Party advancements...

Easily a 10/10!

(ignore all the PS3 owners that are voting .... we can all go and give the Sony presentation a 2/10 when it is done tomorrow)

everything through the MGS announcement was pretty good. yeah sure, we knew about several of them but overall a pretty good list of games and exclusives.

but the ending with facebook, twitter, last.fm, and a camera controller. meh. just didn't have the impact as last years FF XIII announcement and made the end pretty anti-climatic.

7.5-8/10

8/10

- Lost points for ODST.. I was underwhelmed and disappointed.. I kept thinking master chief was going to pop out of somewhere

- Alan Wake looked ok at first.. until he started to pop out flares!!! that was awesome! Wasn't excited till now!

- MGS... mehhh, don't care for the Metal Gear Series, but I'm sure others will be ecstatic

- no Mass Effect 2 announcement could mean loss of exclusivity

- Natal was everything thats been leaked, the guy in the shade needs to learn the basics of looking "cool".. wearing shades in a dark building is not one of them

- Crackdown 2!! Probably my most anticipated game, loved the first one and I can't wait to play the second one

- L4D II, Nice surprise, didn't expect it so soon!

- Halo: Reach, I wish they had more, looks interesting, hoping they have master chief

7.5/10

Lots of good stuff shown, but I reserve the higher grades for the conferences that show me things I was not expecting at all.

Plus that crappy painting they did brought down the score...
